could this be anything other than clogged slow jet(s)?
I pulled the carb rack off of my GL1100 a while back and got everything cleaned and idling and running well. Life came up, and it ended up sitting for probably six weeks or so. When I tried to start it again after that, it acted like the slow jets were clogged. It starts fine with full choke, idles with full choke, but even if I let it sit for a while to warm up it immediately dies when I close the choke. Once it warms up it will run fine if I keep the RPMs above 1500 RPM or so, but it dies straight away when I close the throttle. I had E0 gas in it, and like I said it only sat for about six weeks or so, so it seems unlikely that the slow jets could clog like that, that quickly, but that's sure what it looks like. Is there anything else I can look at before I have to pull the damn carb rack again?

Sounds like slow jet clog....but all 4 of them? After only 6 weeks? Think I'd be inclined to just take it out for a ride with some Techron or injector cleaner in the gas and see how it does.

Seeing as it's running, and if it's rideable weatherwise, I'd run some fuel injector cleaner through it on some longer rides. I've had great success with the Chevron Tecron brand cleaner. There are two types, IIRC. I like the injector specific one, myself. YMMV.

Maybe seafoam for one run. But injection cleaner may be safer.

Thanks guys. I was actually thinking about taking it out for a spin to see if that would help, but I was a little worried about it potentially dieing on me at every stop sign. Maybe I'll see what I can do tomorrow or over the weekend.

When my wife and I got back into motorcycling after 25 years or so, we got serious AAA coverage mainly for towing .....200 miles worth. We also got 100 miles towing through GWRRA and it's dirt cheap. We tend to do looooong trips but if you're just putting around not too far from home, look into GWRRA - only for their towing deal. The rest is a joke.

According to Mike Nixon, who gets his info from industry sources, today's gasoline starts to deteriorate in as little as three weeks. I'm dealing with the same thing on a CB750; if it sits more than about ten days, the idle jets get clogged on at least two carbs. I clear them with a procedure Mike told me about and everything is good again, but the gas itself is probably two months, even though I put Stabil in it.
On the GL1000, you can empty the carb bowls, then pull the idle air hoses off their elbows and spray the idle air jet passages liberally with brake cleaner. It should clear small debris and gelling gas from the idle system. Worked for me.

Did you clean the tank and fuel line and fuel pump? If not, you should take a peak inside with a flashlight and mirror.

I have 4 bikes. One is my wife's. When we come back from a ride, the tank(s) gets an appropriate dose of Stabil Marine, the engine(s) run 'til the goop reaches the carbs and the battery gets hooked to a maintainer. Sometimes it's months before a bike gets ridden again but I've never had the carbs jam up.

Sounds like really old gas, or maybe just old summer gas and it's getting pretty cold there.

difficulty is if you pump in a chemicals to your gas tank it will move rust from your tank and fuel lines and pump to the low spot - your carbs. you can add chemicals straight away to your carbs with a plastic gasline....chemicals are equal opportunity rust removers - it is all the same to them...
