You are lucky to be in an area with low impact. But you are planning to ride thru miles and miles of people in motels, restaurants, gas stations. And a trip to Detroit, where the largest outbreak in Mich. is still going on. I truly hope you don't contract anything. But it will be weeks before you would know. And you could bring it home to your love ones. And even infect your little , safe part, of wet Texas. But it is your call.... and your responsibility.

Since the cue is off and was the pull that got me thinking about being near my old haunts, Ive decided to throw in the towel on my road trip all together.
That being said & done Ive other ideas now. A fall run to Big Bend country & Terlingua, pop 500. No outbreak there and beautiful country. Not sure when but me thinks Terlingua holds a National chilli cook off annually. Maybe then?
Also a run up North West to Guadalupe National Park...again very low in pop.
Guadalupe Peak is 8,750' high. I could do that in late October.

"BARBAR"? Is that the run to bama you've been telling me about?...interesting....
One wrinkle about going anywhere...iv decided & acted on getting some of the rare standard gl1200 parts. I just like how a gl1200 looks. So, aleady most of my trip dollarz are spent on those pieces...happily. todays trial ride went exceedingly well, but got iron butt & fatigued. I know I will improve as I ride more. So back to my shed, putting more $ after bad, plus continuing my evil cycle shed optimizing plans.
Finding diversions is not hard. Me likes the challenge.
So, for a std gl1200, Ive got a F&R fender, a pristine shelter, but dont have the head lamp or HL mounts, turns etc.
Anyone, know what other things are required? Please chime in & be direct...Im slow. I dont like the aspy or interstate fairings at all. They abound, but I prefer the sleeker look of a NGW.

As far as the Standard 1200 parts (in no particular order, if you want everything, and not counting what you have):

-Headlight mount "ears"
-Turn signal mounts
-"Honda" emblem plate for front forks (similar to those on the 1100, but most likely not identical)
-Black plastic trim pieces (2 immediately in front of the shelter, 2 vent-shaped ones that go between the radiator and heat shield)
-Radiator trim (chrome wings, plastic top and bottom pieces)
-Grab rail (good luck)
-Emblem on the shelter lid (unique to the Standard, but 99% of people wouldn't catch it)

Certain parts, like the turn signals themselves interchange with those on the 1100s and '79 1000s- just the mounts are unique. The headlight itself is the standard size used on every Goldwing up to the '84, with a chrome bucket. TECHNICALLY speaking the bucket is 1200-Standard specific too, but the only difference is the 3 or 4 wire holder tabs welded on the inside (which, BTW, get ready for that. Stuffing all the wiring into a Standard 1200 headlight is a NIGHTMARE). There's smaller parts here and there (reflectors, etc.), but those aren't model specific.

There are a few other unique parts for the standard 1200.
The horn bracket which also holds the front indicators and brake pipes is unique.
The horns themselves have a plastic chrome ring and centre button which are the same horns fitted to early to mid 80s Honda Magna.
The front plastic emblem that Lucien mentions above is unique to the standard, and is in 2 parts, carrier and emblem. It is held in by a single grommet fixing.
There is another special rubber part that holds the side reflecters and the plastic radiator side pieces.
Another part that is unique to the standard is the exhaust muffler. The outlet pipes are round on the standard, and oval on the interstate and aspencade.
The seat on the standard has Honda embossed in the back panel.
One very important difference is of course the Instrument cluster. This is similar to the 1100 but the 1200 has an electronic tacho, and the centre part where the lights are is different too.

Barber Vintage Festival. https://www.barbermuseum.org/barber-vintage-festival/ Three days of vintage motorcycle racing (including a hand-shift class!) and two huge swap meets as well as other shows, events, vendors, stunt shows. The museum (which costs extra - go a day early to take it all in) is world-class. My wife commented that the bikes (something like 900) are displayed like jewels. Not sure how it will jive with social distancing. We'll be wearing masks as they get ~80k attendance. Oh, and camping and RV spots were gone the day tickets went on sale. There are hotels within ~10 miles (we stayed at Hyatt twice, but they increased rates by $40 so this year at Holiday Inn Exp) and I've heard that there are plenty campgrounds around.
