Arcing at boot

#1

Post by Dirty Dave »

The battle to get my 79 Wing running properly continues.

Intermittent arcing above the spark plug to ground at the boot on 1 & 2.

Thought it might have been an improper coil ground (loose)
and then swapped in another Dyna 3 ignition pulse sensor set
for fun.

Will try new plugs and wires next. Any ideas?

Wing has been down since May 2017 when the stator broke loose.
Bike ran great until the stator ate some innards.

I guess everybody needs a hobby.

Bad wire.

Would also consider a crack in the plug connector, where the wire is connected

Baby steps towards full function.

New spark plug wires did the trick. My timing was off
so I set it correctly.

Synched the carbs so am happy to
have it idling well on a 4 cylinders.
Starts up great and smooth low revs.

New problem. Higher revs (5000) stumble & cut out.
No way that it reaches red line. Never had this one
before.

I went through the carbs before and am wondering how I
screwed up this time...........

Would never have thought of that one.

Just checked and loosened it more until a "click" was heard upon
release. Will check tomorrow and fuel filter as well.

Mike Nixon suggests 3 turns out at pilot jets which I did.
Experimented with idle drop procedure without much difference
so went back to 3 turns out.
