While the front is off for the pump is a good time to pull the neutral switch and run it through the ulltrasonic cleaner or just replace. Also pull the cover off the sump on the right side, the oil pickup, and clean the bottom of the sump.
Don't forget to throw on shorter bolts for future removal ease while in frame.

Also, while engines out, if the budget allows, a hydraulic clutch can be had to help make shifter more consistent.

Does the hydraulic clutch mod make a big difference? I was searching it a bit but mostly found folks trying to work out problems with it. (maybe it was just my search or I didn't go far enough) If it is worth it, I would definitely be open to doing that as well!

I have no reference frame for it, but if it's anything like my other old japanese bikes, finding neutral when hot can be a challenge. A hyd clutch eliminates that. Mine feels great for the 5ish miles Ive put on it, hahahaha

Here is Oldfogey’s take on the clutch mod…. Fitting hydraulic GL1200 clutch into GL1000.
