Greetings all, in the process of cleaning out the gas tank on my '76 and the fuel sensor is going to need a clean. The one on the left is the one that came out of the tank and the one on the right is the spare I have -
The spare is in better knick but I'll be opening both up to check and clean the internals. The armatures are clearly different however - can I use either?

Cheers Pid! Out of interest, do you know which bike the right one is from? I don't need it now I guess but it's a shame to keep it buried in a box in my garage if anyone can use it, it's in good shape and free to anyone that can find a home for it.

Huh. Bent rod. You might be onto something there. Have to admit that the curvature is pretty perfect so if it is bent it's definitely not accidental, the radius looks stock. If it's bent then someone put some effort into it that's for sure. Wonder why they'd do that? Ok, thanks guys. Maybe I'll try and straighten out the armature in that case and see if I can use this one instead - it's in much better shape. I'll open it up and have a look inside and service that too. Thanks again

There are lots of ways that the arm could become bent in a near perfect curve but I wonder about the differences in the floats.
FWIW, with the stock instrument panel mine always needed reserve right when the gauge was at the top of the red part. When I changed to the electronic instrument its fuel gauge showed quite a bit above empty when I had to switch to reserve. Soon after it reached reserve while at home so I took the opportunity to pull the sender and tweak it's stop arms so that it has a range from 8 to 99 ohms and then adjust the arm so that the gauge shows empty and starts to flash just as it needs reserve.
