Happy Xmas everyone & GL1200 84 Interstate project.

Hi everyone

All the best for Christmas and a better New Year to you and yours!

New Project

I restored a GL1200 Interstate ‘84 back to a fully dressed Wing and I’d to import all
of the parts from different countries, mostly the USA & Canada.

I badly damaged my neck & back (none fault bad road traffic accident in my car) and now
the Wing fully dressed is too heavy for me.

I’m now nearly healed and decided to strip it and create something unique.
All the ‘full fairing kit & panniers etc kit’ is available in the UK, for anyone over here, please message me anytime.

Looking at some Wing restomods on this wonderful site and I’ve now bought the following parts:-

1) Goldwing 1100 faux tank.
2) Harley Davidson VRod 2006 pair of seats, no brackets included.
3) Harley Davidson VRSCD Night Rod rear fender.
4) I’d a spare GL1200 front fender and trimmed this to make a smaller one, works well.

Problems:-

REAR HD VROD FENDER
The HD rear fender needs installing, is this bolted to the GW frame directly or do you still use the GW inner metal wheel cover underneath?

HD SEATS.
The seats are a matching pair of VRod seats, they’re loose and not
bolted together.
On trying the mudguard on the GW and putting on the seats, it looks good.
How do you fit the front seat, this one is hinged for the HD?
Do you make a hinge and weld it on?

Or

Do you bolt the 2 HD seats together and use the HONDA SEAT TANG and a made seat rear bracket
to hold the seat on?

When the seats are positioned correctly, the front seat then impedes the faux tank cover
and this then can’t open as the seat is in the way?

Also

When you open the GL1100 faux tank fuel filler cap area, the faux tank bracket is in the way?

Any help and advice is very much appreciated guys.

All the best to you all, enjoy the festive holiday!

Best regards and thank you.

Years ago I put a HD wrap around fender on my 75. It was the perfect width. I think like 7 and a quarter Inches. Bolted up just fine using the existing frame holes. I did add some ugly supports to reduce the possibility of cracking
