OBD 2 SCANNERS
Hello Folks;
I am sure I am not alone here in the fact that I am a serious DIY home mechanic. It has come the time to replace my OBD2 scanner. The one I have is an INNOVA 3140 and it appears to have outlived its usefulness and per the manufacturer, no longer upgradeable. Actually I feel that I am no longer upgradeable either but I will press on "until they pry the 13MM wrench out of my . . . " .
Any suggestions, new, used etc? My budget is in the $200 range.
Regards;
Mike Coleman

Re: OBD 2 SCANNERS
I have this one.
https://us.bluedriver.com/
It was the only one I could find that will clear codes in a VW.
It has a fantastic app..it stores your history when you pull codes, it has possible fixes it suggests..well worth the money.
I gave my first one to my son. He has the vw. It threw a code for a misfire which we traced back to a bad coil.
I told him that repair at a garage would have cost him double what the coil cost and it was a repair he could have done in his driveway.
Plus if it is a repair beyond his skill level he can tell the garage what code it threw and what it was for so they know they can't bs him..

Re: OBD 2 SCANNERS
I have used the bluedriver reader for well over a year and like it, I did a lot of searching to find what I thought would work the best for me, between friends and family I have used it on 12 different vehicles and like what it can do. Only wish it had two way communications to control specific vehicle functions for better diagnostic capability.

Gents;
The BlueDriver looks interesting, is it a stand alone unit, it looks like it links to your phone?

Another one you may want to look at is
https://www.obdlink.com/products/obdlink-mxp/
It has the ability to read the network of the car.

Re: OBD 2 SCANNERS
I've had a few over the years. The first came with about 5 cables to match all the different systems that were out there and cost north of $300 IIRC (25 years ago). I still use it on the 89 Trooper. Once OBDII became the standard, I picked up an OBDLink WiFi - which was fiddly as crap to get it connected (I see they don't have that version anymore). I also got a BlueDriver. Both, when connected, had lots of good infor on the codes you're getting and were about $50 each. When a VW joined the fleet, I had to get a VW specific reader to deal with the airbags. As I didn't want to get multiple airbag readers, I finally picked up an Actron 9680 scanner which is pretty comprehensive in its ability and range (airbag, ecm). You should look at them as they are under $200 and within your range.

Re: OBD 2 SCANNERS
I have a couple $16 Bluetooth modules (327, I think) thathave dome all that is needed. But, no exotic cars to work on - just Chevys, Fords, and Suzukis. Lots of phone apps connect to it.

Re: OBD 2 SCANNERS
Turns out I lied. My last acquisition was also an Autel Diaglink. Works very well.
