fiberglass fuel tank.
Not being able to find the fuel tanks I need for me 1200 project, have decided I have to build them. Does anyone know if the standard fiberglass is fuel resistant enough to use for tanks? Thinking of using matt and glass to make them. , Can experiment, but any knowledge would be helpful.

The fuel tank on one of my race bikes was fiberglass. "They" said you should drain it between events but I never did. I had that tank on a bike for 30 years and it is still doing just fine. It did have gel coat on the inside.
They made the "tank" portion first then glued/glassed that into the shell that looked like the stock tank. Filled it on top just like the stock tank.

Re: fiberglass fuel tank.
because of the sinngle rear shock on my 1200 project, a standard tank will not work. I like having at least 6 gallons of fuel, and thst much fuel up high, for me, puts tomuch weight up high. Tanks will be in the saddle bags, only filling the lower half of each bag. Keeping the weight as low as possible. I'm using hard leather Harley bags, so custom tanks give the most volumn, filling all the erregular nooks and cranies.robin1731 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 17, 2022 11:38 am The fuel tank on one of my race bikes was fiberglass. Re: fiberglass fuel tank.
I looked into doing this, might still. If I remember right epoxy based resin is fuel resistant.
This series on Hackaweek is really cool and has good info, lot of episodes to sort thru though.
