Hello Folks;
My son in Vermont is looking for a Harley Davidson Street Glide, 2016-2019. Any ideas or opinions?

Re: What do we know about Harley Street Glides?
All three sons ride Harleys, the oldest has a 2013 Street Glide. Nice bike but it doesn't come with a tour pack (top box), he added one two years ago. It's not the top of the line Harley but it has plenty of comfort even riding 2 up. I never hear much about services since the dealer does almost all of his work. Wish I could tell you more but he has lived out of the area and we don't get to ride much. Like all bikes they are expensive to maintain.

Seems most add power adders to them to get more umph out of them. No personal experience with them.

Hi Gents;
Thanks, I find that most riders 'farm out' their maintenance these days, except those of us nutters who ride odd or self built bikes. I fall into that category.
The Harleys have impeccable chrome and finish but the rest does not impress me.
Thanks;

Would probably get a better answer to your question if asked on a H-D forum. All the responses came from folks that are not Harley riders (and probably never were). Just what was it that you want to know about the Street Glides?

My other ride is a 2016 Road Glide Ultra. It's the last year of the 103 motor and has been a very good ride. I prefer a fixed fairing vs the Street Glide type. The 2017 & 2018 M8 motors have some issues that have been addressed, but if you're looking used you'd have to investigate if the mods were done.

Re: What do we know about Harley Street Glides?
I have ridden a few and have some friends with them. No real insight I guess. Seems like all the guys I know do have all the work done at the dealership and pay ridiculous amounts of money for simple things. Friend in Pa just paid 300 plus for a new front tire. As I understand it the tire is a HD rebranded Dunflop 404 that should cost well less than 200.

Good Day Gents;
Thanks for the HD comments and information. My son in Vermont looked around and sprung the bucks for a new one. A new 2023 in black is on its way to him, he says he will get it next week. Now we wait for the weather to improve, it is still too cold, snowy and salty for two wheeled enjoyment.
Thanks;

Re: What do we know about Harley Street Glides?
He will be fine with that year SG. I ride a '06 Road King and have some insight into the newer model years. The 2014-2016 would be a good bet in the 103 motor. Prior to that there was an issue with the compensator. The 110's had some issues with lifters as well. The 2017-2019 Milwaukee 8 motors (107's and 114's) had sumping problems with the oil pump and finally got it resolved in 2020 I believe. FWIW .... my '06 now has 115,000 miles on it and still going strong.

Re: What do we know about Harley Street Glides?
it has the same pattern as the 404, but it is of better quality and lasts longer. At least that is my experience.Whiskerfish wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 10:34 am I have ridden a few and have some friends with them. No real insight I guess. Research and browse online: Start by checking out reputable online platforms like official Harley Davidson websites, dealership websites, or popular classified websites. These platforms often have search filters that allow you to specify the make, model, and year range to help you find the desired Street Glide within your son's preferred range of 2016-2019.Mike-C wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 12:55 pm Hello Folks;

Visit local dealerships: Encourage your son to visit nearby Harley Davidson dealerships in Vermont. They often have a wide range of new and used motorcycles available for viewing and test rides. This way, he can get a firsthand experience of the Street Glide and discuss options with the dealership's sales representatives.
Consider pre-owned options: While brand new models may be enticing, purchasing a pre-owned Street Glide can be a more cost-effective choice. Your son can explore local classified ads, online marketplaces, or even reach out to local Harley Davidson enthusiast groups for potential sellers.
Check for maintenance records: When considering a used Street Glide, it's important to ask for maintenance records. Ensure that the motorcycle has been well-maintained and has undergone regular servicing. This can help determine its overall condition and potential issues.
Get a professional inspection: Before finalizing a purchase, it's advisable to have a trusted mechanic or a Harley Davidson dealership perform a thorough inspection of the motorcycle. This can provide a comprehensive assessment of its mechanical condition and identify any hidden problems.
Consider budget and financing options: Discuss with your son about his budget and explore financing options if needed. Financing can help make the purchase more manageable, allowing him to choose a Street Glide that fits his preferences within his financial means.
