I got the ignition parts but no instructions. Is the plate with the pickups supposed to move once installed?

Yep just what I thought. I broke my cardinal rule and bought the cheapie replacement. The plate is so thin the stop screws don’t hold it in place.
I could probably make it work but I’m going to get the correct parts from Daynatek.
Live and learn.
But at 73 you’d think I would know.

I’ve installed the Dyna ignition and now have some time to set the ignition timing.
Using the static method I have a good signal/light on the F2 but only a dim light on the F1. It seems that the dim light doesn’t change no matter how I adjust the right side of the module.
What should I do now?
I thought of rechecking the wire to the coil but it worked fine before.
I’m going to be able to dedicate a complete day soon to get my bike running. It currently will start but only runs on two cylinders.

The second version quit on me with 100 miles to go from home. I was able to remove the cover and press on the offending module and it would make contact and fire. I rode it home with the toe of my shoe on the module. When home I glued a piece of rubber inner tube to the inside of the cover to supple pressure on the modules. Worked long enough to get a new set.

The next time it quits on you, try pressing with your finger (carefully) on the offending module.
Eric... I am wondering if the affected Dyna module was developing an increasing ohms resistance connection with the common base plate both modules are mounted on/fastened to where they pick up the ignition primary side ground path.
Perhaps that module's internal circuitry was capable to performing the ground path switching function, but the affected module had a poor ground connection with the mounting base plate?
Forcing the module into 'better' contact with the ground connection to the baseplate may have been the bandaid that got you home?

I disassembled a newer Dyna S and found both modules had a fine smear of something where they are fixed to the baseplate.
It appears metallic. It also caught my attention the whole of the baseplate AND metallic underside of the module both appear to have a rough machined surface where they contact each other.

I thought it would behoove me to call Dynatek to inquire what that material is, but my memory to do that took a vacation 🤔

If the right side (F1) adjustable position module isn't securely tightened onto the baseplate before you check its static timing, the timing bulb may stay illuminated. Run a temporary ground jumper wire into direct contact with the Dyna S baseplate.

WHY?

The material under the module is heat transfer compound, as used in personal computers between the CPUs and their heatsinks. Commonly available in stores such as Best Buy, if it matters.

Update. I ended up using the ignition module I bought off of E-bay after I made some modifications to it so it fit properly.
I was able to send the Dyna unit back and was notified today that a new one is on the way.
The cheaper Chinese unit does work though. I timed it using Randaks split timing method. It now runs better than ever. Doesn’t overheat which is probably because it was incorrectly timed to far retarded.
I’ll put in the new Dyna unit when I get time and don’t have anything else to do.

One other thing I’ve found over the years is that the gasket on the cover tends to tear when you pull the cover off and those gaskets aren’t really easily available. But you need the gasket otherwise the cover sits down on the Dyna unit and causes problems. On mine, I used a piece of cork/rubber gasket sheet and cut a new gasket that is much thicker than the oe to keep the cover off of the Dyna unit causing shorting.
