82 EFI Cafe Wing build
Update: changed the title to something more actuate to the build.
I bought this bike a few months ago while I was still in Iraq. My father drove down to Wisconsin to pick it up.
82 Aspencade.
Yesterday was the first day back in my hometown visiting my parent's place with my wife and kids for about a month and a half before we head back to Iraq.
This was Saturday evening. First time sitting on a Goldwing.
Sunday after church the work began.
My Father lending a hand on Father's Day
Me lending a hand to my son.
Bags and fairing off. Starting to look like a normal bike now.
Engine guards and running boards off. Starting to look at the stock wiring.
Time to start doing maintenance. Also need to get some parts ordered to replace the running boards with some pegs, a headlight, taillights, blinkers etc.
I found that the seat is way to far forward and too low for me and the handlebars are to far back. I'm pretty tall and with the running boards still on my legs felt super cramped. I will need to raise the seat and get something straighter like a long style cafe racer seat. I want to change the seating position to be a bit more "rotated" forward so I might need to look at moving the pegs back and changing the shifter and brake levers.

I need to find brackets for new foot pegs. Does anyone know companies doing bolt on foot peg "rear sets" or brackets with different foot positions than factory?

So I DIYed the foot pegs. I ended up modifying the passenger pegs to fit the front peg locations. They actually set in nearly the perfect position. A bit lower and further back. I also rotated them slightly forward. I'll have to modify the shift and brake levers a bit but I can still reach them fine with my heal on the pegs.
All new lights coming next week so that should be fun.

I've been working on the bike nearly every day. Little things mostly. I made some brackets to hold the tail light to the rear fender. I'll probably get a different fender eventually so I'm not too worried that I had to drill two new holes in it.
Biggest issue so far has been getting a new o-ring for the thermostat. It's taking more than a week and I'm annoyed that I can't ride it till I get the radiator back on. I've been taking it for 30 second drives up the road and back so it doesn't get too hot.
I am concerned that I didn't get the timing belt on right because it's backfiring and chuffing a bit. I'm going to pull the timing belt covers off again to make sure it's right. Then I'll set the valve lash so I can make sure nothings damaged.
I got my new headlight which is the new Holley RetroBright. Very sweet enclosed LED light with great pattern and classic look. Waiting for the bucket to come in the next few days.
Im not sure what im going to do with the wad of wires that was behind the damper. I really hate how "balled up" it is. I wish there was a way to get rid of most of them. Im going to pull out the schematic and see what I can do to make it better.

Ok when I run the bike after doing the timing it's backfiring and chuffing a bit. Not much but it's more than before. I made a small video to double check the belts are on right. Have a look and tell me if I'm missing something.

We trust the carburetors have been removed, disassembled and serviced?

Have not done carbs yet. It was running really well when I started working on it so I wasn't planning to do carbs this trip. I did have the fuel turned off one of the times which my be still causing it to sputter a bit. Running the water pump's ceramic seal ' dry ' (minus coolant "lubrication" ) can lead to a water pump replacement session, too

Well I got the bike running great. Found that one of the spark plugs got compressed a bit while changing the timing belts so there was almost no gap. After regapping the plug the bike runs very smooth.
Next issue is the cables. I replaced the handlebars and now all the cables and brake line are about 4-5 inches too long. I can run the clutch cable a bit further back but the the front brake especially needs to be shorter. The throttle cables are a bit annoying but not absurd.
Anyone know if there is a factory brake line from another bike that has the same ends but is a few inches shorter? Or another option?

I also made some brackets for signal lights. They're really solid and look great. When I get a different fender and do a proper paint job I'll figure out a better mounting option.
