Controls and Headlight

#1

Post by newtothis »

Alright guys my bike once had a fairing but now it doesn't and it is in need of a new head light one for a naked :) so doesn't anyone have any suggestions on what one to use? The previous owner had but a hologene light in the old bucket. I need and new bucket and rings to hold the light in.

But now for the real reason i am here in the tech section lol. I did my first dumb thing while removing the factory bars I could not figure out how to get the wire out of the bar. (not knowing you had to disconnect all the wires and the harness) I dumbly opened the controls and cut the wires and pulled them out of the bottom of the bar. Now my question can this be fixed or did I make a big booboo and now going to have to get new controls? If I have to get new controls does anyone have a good source? just lookin for some factory style 1976.

It could be fixed but if it was me I'd get different controls. You could put a post in the wanted section on here. Cyclepsycho may have something, they probably do. Then there is always ebay.

Did you leave enough wire when you cut it to solder and heatshrink them back together? Or did you cut them off flush?

I just pulled both sides off of my 76. Let me know if your interested? The start button fell out and someone wired it to a diff. button, but the wires are there. everything else is fine.

Fairing to naked headlight

#5

Post by jimbo »

I’m in a jam , I took off the fairing and going naked, so I bought a head light but can I remove some of the wires or do I need to cram them all into the headlight ? M sure I can try to trace them all down and just use what I need but thought I would ask before I screw something up

They use a sub-harness to attach fairings, and use a box behind the fairing to hold the wires that would be in the headlight bucket. Believe it or not, the factory wiring will fit back into the headlight bucket. Usually it takes me two or more tries to get an arrangement that works well.
