Re: My Last Two GL1000 Projects
I spend one hour working for every 2 hours looking due to the mess. After I finish these two projects I am going to completely clean out my shop and start over with finished floors, painted walls and basically just fix it up. Progress was slow today because I spent so much time looking for little parts that I needed, but at least there was some progress. Here are a few pictures:

Re: My Last Two GL1000 Projects
Today, I got two rear fenders cleaned up and installed on the bikes. I also cleaned up two of my hand crafted grab bars and got them installed with turn signals. Tomorrow, I will hopefully finish the wiring and test everything. I want to make sure everything basically works before installing body parts. I will try and take some pictures tomorrow.

Those look like they will be beautiful. Most of my bikes are more "resurrections" than "restorations" so I get all giddy when I see pics with all the shiny bits!

Re: My Last Two GL1000 Projects
Thanks for the encouragement and that is really what these are to me. These resurrections have many imperfections. I try and bring my bikes back to a point where they look a few years old with scratched up fenders and other flaws, but something that you would be proud to ride and show off.
I had a setback yesterday when I did some testing. I actually rode the one with the 4-in-1 gauge to see if there were any issues. Of course there were issues as that is always the case when you do a major project like this . I had to replace a clutch cable. The gauges were working fine and then they started going bonkers. The volt meter pegged, but the actual voltage was about 14 volts. Then the other gauges started acting weird too. Very sad, but that is what I get for buying cheap gauges, I guess. I decided to go ahead and order another gauge just like the one that failed, but I bought an insurance policy with it this time. If that one does the same thing, I have a backup plan to mount a smaller gauge inside the shell of the larger 4-in-1 gauge. Hopefully, I won't have to do that, but time will tell.

Re: My Last Two GL1000 Projects
I still have a lot to do, but I can see the end of the tunnel. I have some parts on order, so I can't finish these for a week or so, but I think you will like this progress report. Notice the handmade grab bars on both bikes. Nobody seems to want my bars on eBay, but at least I was able to use a couple on these projects. Also, notice the original seats. I got one of these with a bike that I bought a few years ago and it looked like the guy took it off shortly after it was bought and never used it. I saved this seat for a special project. The other seat is in even better condition and I put it on the bike without the 4-in-1 gauge. I paid $30.00 for it just the other day at a thrift store. I am going to give one of these bikes to my brother, but I haven't decided which one yet.

I am curious to what you think about the paint. Does it look close to the original? I wasn't really trying to get an exact match, but to me, it is pretty close.

I've found one can never trust colors on a computer display; to many variables, and florescent lighting (I assume) makes it worse. That said, i like the color, and the quality looks very good. I'd love to see them in person...
