replacement "straw" for coolant expansion tank

#1

Post by toomanybikes »

The rubber bit of the supply tube on my expansion tank has degraded and needs to be replaced. Surprisingly, the part is still available from Partzilla, so I can order a new one. Rather than pay $10 shipping on an $9 part, I'd rather wait until I need more parts.

Until that time and since it's a resurrection project that's not being ridden, can I simply shove a rubber hose into the tank or does it need a vacuum seal to work properly as the coolant flows between the expansion tank and the radiator? If a vacuum is needed, I could also find a rubber stopper of the proper size and DIY a solution.

It does not need to seal. That is just to keep contaminants out.
