Hurricane Milton

Post by Whiskerfish »

Current forecast has it as a strong 3 by the time it hits Florida on Wednesday. Right now the center seems to be very close to where Ian came ashore a couple years ago.

I am paying close attention as my Parents are in St Cloud. About 75 miles inland from Tampa Bay

Not liking this at all. That "H" at 1 AM Thursday is basically over Mom & Dad's house. Structurally I have few worries. It is a good concrete block house with a newer roof. But they are only about a block from East Lake Tohopekaliga. Yea don't ask me how to say that word!!

Yea I been watching in between packing. They say it will weaken when it gets closer to the shore line from shear or some such. Traffic leaving Tampa right now is a nightmare. I will be going to that Red Heart just below Kissimmee

Gonna ride it out. No significant flood risk. Biggest thing here will be flying debris. Not supposed to do much till early evening tomorrow. We have the yard cleaned up and are mostly set now. I have enough gas to run the gen for about 14 hours continuous but can ration it for days if needed

My sister called me Saturday afternoon, needing to talk about the hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico.
I hadn't been paying much attention to the news in the Gulf after seeing what devastation Helene had left in North Carolina.
Helene was not a problem in her neck of the woods on the Gulf coast side of Florida.
anyways
She lives very near the area where Ian came ashore 2 years ago. 85 miles south of Tampa.
Although she and her property were not physically injured by hurricane Ian, the trauma of hunkering down in an inner bathroom by herself through the night while the 100+ mph wind raged outside , totally cutoff from the outer world, endures.

I spoke with her, again, Monday afternoon about probabilities of Evacuation Orders.
She said, no,
" I am in Zone C which is not in evacuation zone, which is based on storm surge".

This evening, I noted the current forecast storm surge prediction is 15 feet. Yikes :(
