That is truly, truly annoying.

But it could be worse. Years ago a fellow I knew decided to put higher bars on his Harley and run the cable through the bars but the original cables were too short so he decided to lengthen them. You know how they say some people shouldn't attempt some projects? This guy cut all the wires in the cable at the same place, soldered in pieces to make them longer and then found that if he used more than a single wrap of tape on each joint they wouldn't go into the bars.
Then he set out to ride back to Toronto from BC.
By the time he got here he had a lot of issues with the switches. Fortunately someone who knew a bit more about that sort of thing took pity on him, took it all apart and put it back together with the joints staggered. And with heat shrink tubing :orange

FWIW, I have a nicer than original master cylinder on Mr.H and I occasionally contemplate replacing the original clutch lever with one that is a better match for the brake lever but that would involve replacing the clutch lever perch too; The 1100s came with the cables outside the bars but I like the handlegrips I have and the left one had to be installed with a mallet so I don't think it will come off in 1 piece so I'll have to live with the original lever until I decide the grips need to be replaced :(

Pretty sure I did that maneuver as well when building BADDOG years back. It was quicker the second time and if I ever do it again it will not happen.

I ended up pulling two wires apart to the right switches on my '75 project. Luckily, I had a spare set and will be using shorter (CB750) bars. And, I'll use PLENTY of wire lube pulling them in!

The last time I pulled wires I used weed wacker line as my pull string. Rigid enough to easily feed through and strong enough to pull.

Remember to widen the hole in the bars a bit with a dremmel tool. It makes a huge difference.

I've also wrestled with these. One set I did had such bad black sheathing that I replaced it with some I bought from Vintage Connections. New stuff slides in so much easier.

Len, good video ! I was sitting here thinking what’s the big deal? Yeah, I’ve put those in and they are a pain but doable,,,,, then I seen the clutch handle…… So sorry, but it is kinda funny,,, because it isn’t me,,,, thanks for sharing !
