Newbie from Markham

#1

Post by Frank_V »

Hi everyone,
I’m new to the forum and new to Goldwings, I’ve recently bought a 83 interstate with 83k on it. Bike seems to run ok but needs a good cleaning and fluid change. I want to strip it down and turn it into a naked Goldwing. The rear shocks seem like they are gone, I’m not sure how to use the air suspension and I don’t know if it’s safe to take apart or what the procedure is.

Welcome to the 'Wingdom.

As CYBORG says, a lot of work ahead … check out ShopTalk for lots of info.

You might want to ride it as is for a while before you begin. Try putting a little air in the shocks and see if it holds.

Lots of these old gals around, you might end up with two … or …

Welcome. From Ontario? Service manual first, then on with the maintenance. Good luck.

Welcome from Wisconsin. Looks like a solid project. Getting the 1100's nekkid is actually fairly easy, especially if you're not shooting for 100% OEM. Enjoy the ride!

Lovely change, but you work way too fast....
You can safely dump that steering head weight too. You need a headlight bucket for the wires. Turn signal ears are the most challenging to find. But there are a ton of aftermarket choices.

Great work, and change those belts...

Can anyone tell me if I can swap out both rims for spoked wheels off a 75,76 or 77 GW?

Best start thread in the "restorations and projects"forum.
Much more traffic there than in ¿introductions'

The wheel swap is possible, but complicated
