I don't miss zero degrees.
I don't miss shoveling a 150 foot driveway (even with a snow thrower).
I don't miss the sun not coming out for months at a time.
I don't miss the chuckholes.
On the other hand...
Hurricanes truly suck.
The snow-birds are down and the traffic is awful.

I have lived both places, and here is worse then there. In my opinion. Of course I lived on the west coast, on a boat, and could escape to the Gulf, or the Keys when ever I wanted an escape. Best time was sailing in the Gulf alone. But that's just me.

yea Mom and Dad transitioned to their Florida place last week and I think 2 of my Sisters and half of their Families joined them. So ! think the population of Florida doubled! Today is Dad's 92nd Birthday so there is some gathering going on.

I don't mind the cold as, retired, I can adjust time spent out in it. Never really had a bad time working in any weather, cept high wind. No way to fight high wind and aircraft, bad combo.

I was an avid snow skier. I played hockey until I was 63. I liked the outdoors.

January 5, 1979 1am to 3 am. -6°F with 20 to 30mph winds. I was on top of a 100' aerial ladder at a 5 alarm fire in a high rise apartment building in mid-town Detroit squirting water around. The truck had 4 inches of ice on every surface. So did I.
When we finally took the ladder down it wouldn't retract and so we had to drive back to the firehouse with it sticking out the back by about 60 feet. It took two hours using hot water to free it up so it could be laid back where it belonged.
Cold. It was really, really, freakin' cold.

Been seriously cold a few times in my life. A couple that stick out are deicing Airplanes in Maine during the winter and breaking the ice in "Peoples Pond" in the POW part of Survival school. Had to break out the ice so we could do the push ups in the water. Then spent the rest of the night huddled up under the trees in soaking wet clothing. We were in the evasion part of the course and I had no idea what the temps were. Obviously well below freezing. That was the last week in October of 79 in Rangeley Maine.

I spent 14 months in Fairbanks and saw some real winter. Still have a newspaper clipping that shows the high for the day at minus 35 degrees. We had a field exercise where we spent a week in tents etc. No desire to go back there during winter.
