what about an EV?

Just over 2 years ago I asked a similar question. Almost started a war. I suppose it all depends on who asks the question.

I think the inevitability of EV use has changed many people's opinions, even in the past two years. I live in a small upper- Midwest town. Two years ago, seeing an EV around town was noteworthy. Now they're common place, especially since the big three American automakers have entered the market. It's the same with e-bikes. I will say that I don't think I've seen an electric motorcycle around these parts, however...

Maybe one day but there are still a few problems with them that I don't see being solved any time soon. If you run out of gas the auto club can bring some in a can to get you on your way to where you can fill up properly but in an EV they have to tow you to a charging station. And then there's the issue of the range decreasing by 20-30% in the winter.

Hybrids seem like a better bet but I've heard a few hybrid owners say that they plug them in at night so they haven't needed the gas engine for 2 or 3 years. That sounds good until you think about the fuel aging in the tank.........

All good points. And then there is the initial investment... (car and charging system costs). Might be for people who stay home and only do about 50 miles a week.

Or people that have short commutes and never go anywhere else.

Hard to argue that an EV is no good for a second vehicle. Very rare for this family to have both cars out for 300 mile rides on the same day, so just like a motorcycle is a good second vehicle, so is an EV. For some that stay home, they can be an only car but that and dual EV households are like hens teeth.
