The old dishwasher was over 20 years old. I can't hook it up because during that time they changed the inlet valves on them from 3/8" pipe thread to to 3/4" garden hose thread. And he didn't have an adapter in the truck so I'll have to get one tomorrow.

When Dad replaced the kitchen cabinets in their first house he kept some of the original steel ones for shop/basement use and 3 of them made it to this house. When I was dragging them out to the garage it occurred to me that you can never have too much storage in the garage so they'd be more useful there

The big news is that I've moved most of the filing cabinets to the container. It's starting to look pretty full

Finally.
You can't really see it but there's a bank of 60 small file drawers (it breaks down for moving) between the filing cabinets on the left in the last pic and the bed and another two full size 4 drawer cabinets behind the stuff on the right.
10 - Container Jun 1.jpg

We also got the big cabinets from the train room & 2 similar from the storage room moved to the big space in the garage (where the car parks in the winter) and stacked in front of the train layout parts and they are well on the way to filled (mostly with shop stuff). Most of the rest of the big shelves &c are on the other side of the big space and as of now the aisle through there is about 48" wide. I figure that's about the minimum to let the workers carry the old floor out and their equipment in so other than filling the cabinets that's about all we'll be storing in there too.

When I'm done moving shop stuff to the cabinets I have to remove all of the doors downstairs and I need to disassemble 2 desks (1 wooden and 1 steel) and move all of that to the garage and there are a few odds & ends of furniture that will have to go either to the garage or some upstairs.
"But wait" you say "Didn't you say the aisle was as narrow as it could be?" Yep. I'll keep temporarily piling stuff in there (as long as we can get through...) but when I know the crew is coming I'll move it to my parking space and park Eccles outside for a while.

Not much new to report. We went through what was left in the basement and decided there was a bunch of stuff we didn't need to keep or sell but was too good to just toss so I had a "FREE STUFF yard sale" over the weekend. I accumulated all of it in the garage during the week and put it out front on Friday. About half of it went so I'll leave the rest out there until it disappears or we haul it to the landfill.
I had started some plants for the garden before the storm/flood and some survived and since I didn't need to be present for the "sale" I started planting them; We won't have much of a garden this year but at least there will be something to eat ;-)

Except for a few things in the shop we're done packing things in boxes so as soon as the giveaway stuff was out I started breaking down & bundling the left over boxes and piling them in the garage. After they go out for recycling I'll take apart the desks and move the rest to the garage.

With the workbench cleared off enough to do something and a few free hours I decided to work on my portable gramophone that was on the floor in the rec room during the flood. The mechanism was OK but the covering on the case was peeling and some of the joints in the wood needed to be glued back together. I also spent some time at the buffing wheel cleaning up the screws I didn't have suitable replacements for as well as the hinges and clasp (ideally they would be re-plated but at least they don't look any worse than the rest of the case). It still looks pretty beat up but at least it won't fall apart and there's no mould inside. There was a box of needles inside it and most of them have a bit of rust. I thought I'd have to throw them out but after thinking about it for a few days I decided to try running one in the lathe while holding a rag with rubbing compound against it. It looks really good so I tried it and it sounds OK too so I'll eventually need to go through the rest of them.

The plan has changed slightly. It quickly became obvious that there wasn't room in the aisle for all of the stuff that remained and it didn't make sense to move it all twice if there was any other option. After the last big lot of paper/cardboard recycling was out of the garage I figured out that if I moved a few other things I could park the sidecar outfit in there with just enough room to get past and start putting furniture &c directly into my parking space.
All of the doors are removed except for the bathroom (I'll remove it last minute), the desks are apart and my parking space now looks like this as viewed from the garage shop (I couldn't get a good pic from the other end because I unplugged the garage door opener when I piled stuff against the overhead door)

I still have 2 work tables, the slot car table and the N scale railroad table (the latter 2 are doors) to move out so they will sit in the aisle and move into where I'm parking now at the last minute.

I still have some stuff to move out of the basement shop but the whole basement looks really empty.
