Fire, Fuel, Compression but No Combustion

#1

Post by leonardhcross »

In a recent post I queried......Is it possible to have spark, fuel and compression and not have combustion? If you have followed that post, you will note that I chased ignition gremlins all over the place.....coils, wiring, plug caps, points, condenser, grounds etc. I darkened my garage and pulled out all four plugs and observed four, fat blue sparks at each. The carbs were recently rebuilt. The compression around 145. But, cylinders #1 and #2 were not firing.

I won't re-hash everything that was in the earlier post. In the end, I concluded that "fuel" was the problem. I pulled the carbs and opened them to discover the orange rust/dust that I had shown. I disassembled and re-cleaned the carbs. I pulled off the contaminated tank and replaced it with a very nice replacement tank that I had purchased on e-bay. I changed the fuel filter, flushed the lines and fuel pump and pre-filled the carbs with fresh fuel. One spin and she fired up on all four cylinders. I checked all four exhaust manifolds and all were very hot.

Here is how she sounded this AM. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6HCMlR ... XY&index=1

I tried to attach this short video to my post but it would not load. So, I had to post it on YT and then attach the link.
