neutral light won't turn off
Greetings,
Quick question...the neutral light on my 81 gl1100 won't turn off. It does dim a bit when in gear, but always on. any thoughts?

Yep its a job ....Myneutral switch wire is disconnected at the light ...no neutral light at all. Therefore I must engage the clutch to start even in neutral. The job is a bit big for right now ...Im not ready to stop riding for a bit yet ( winter project ) hope this works ...here is a link that might help you

One thing you might want to do when you have the engine moved, if it a 1000 or 1100 model. Remove the 4 bolts that hold the cover for the oil screen and remove it, clean it and repalce the screen and cover.

WHOA! Litho tape? Is there somebody still out there using film & masking sheets?JAinPA wrote:I like Queenie's suggestion the best. Of course it would be a good exercise to fix it right. I covered it with a few layers of printer's red lith tape to tone it down. It's not a problem, but it is there. Thanks for the info.

the neutral light on my 78 gl1000 won't turn off.
I noticed this thread and had to respond since this is precicely the problem i have right now. as well and the reason that my engine is partly removed. we have changed the neutral switch(BIG JOB FOR SUCH A LITTLE PIECE
I have also found a bare part of the wire coming from the switch to the neutral light and have taped that up but unfortunately this has not helped and my neutral light still remains on and im not sure what to do now. there is only one wire coming from this indicator or is it possible that there is another wire that operates this neutral light that would cause the light to stay on? my friend has tested the neutral switch and it look to be operating properly. Could the problem be inside the engine with the part that triggers this neutral switch?
I would really like to fix this problem before i put the bike back together so please let me know if you have any ideas other than what has been posted here. thanks in advance for your assistance

Dan Riffle:
I didn't quite understand what you did, but it sounds practical.
Could you be more specific? Perhaps post in "How-To" or email me?
Incidentally, it looks as if I am missing a wire that should be coming out of the left grip assembly (clutch side).
All is there is like a 2-3 prong exposed hook up. I have always attributed the "N-light always on" to this, but it has been low on my research priorities' list.
