head question

#1

Post by quakeholio »

I know that (at least i'm thinking that) one of the 4 cylnder goldwings had hydralic valves. Just wondering about the possibility of putting hydralic valved head onto one that was not run in that manner.

Guess the question boils down to something like dose a gl1200 head fit onto a gl1*00? just a academic question on my part sence i have no motor that even looks like them.

I've heard about some guys trying to do that with a GL1000,
they ran into big trouble and they don't finished the project.

Sounds like a big project. What would be the advantage?

Thinking that you would be able to go to a less maintinece head. Considering that I don't have a motorcycle that takes a head remotely like that its just one of those "i wonder if" questions.

Yes, less maintenance, no valve adjustment.

I think you'd be looking at one monster of a job to convert to hydraulic lifter on your Wing. You would have to increase oil pump volume and regulate the pressure, then you would have to come up with some belts to drive the cams because the 1000 and 1200 use different belts.

If you do accomplish this changeover, please let us know how you did it.
