Seems to be working, plan sounds worth a try. Good to see continued progress.

Re: It just looks like trash!
Things are moving a bit slow. Really hot weather. I have been priming and spot glazing the body components and they are coming along. Haven't settled on a color yet. The seat/tail piece is working out but is requiring a lot of slow filling and sanding to blend the altered side panels into the main body of the unit. I think it will look good and be plenty strong. Trying to work with fiberglass resin and filler in this hot weather is a problem--the mixed material goes from liquid paste to solid in about 2 minutes (literally) so there isn't much time to smooth things out. Fortunately the cheese grater is available to knock off the high spots. Will include some pictures when there is something to show.

Re: It just looks like trash!
My mufflers arrived today so I can test fit and have adapters made if necessary. I have been both looking forward to this and dreading it because now I can put the gasoline in and see if it will run. Since someone else redid the carbs I am just hoping it was done right and there are no surprises.

Avoid painting under less then ideal conditions as well. No reason to be pessimistic on those carbs yet, there is time for doubt next week.

Re: It just looks like trash!
Finished up the priming of the painted parts today pending final paint work when the weather turns cooler or I get the cash to have it done by somebody who knows what they are doing. Also mounted up the headers and new mufflers. I got brave and put some gas in the tank to try and start it but immediately ran into a problem. The petcock which I overhauled early in the project was leaking badly so I had to abandon any hope of starting it today. Worse still the "engine paint" I used doesn't seem to be resistant to gasoline and is puckering up just like I was using stripper on it. Not good! And although I can spot repair the area it doesn't look promising for long term durability. Will try to get some pictures tomorrow with all the plastic in place but I have to get that petcock fixed before I can try again to start the bike.

Re: It just looks like trash!
You're right Sunnbobb, it is getting "slowly" but I am not sure about "surely"!
Got the petcock fixed (spring washer on wrong side of handle) but strangely enough it doesn't want to shut off the gas flow? At least it is not leaking. Put the gas back in the tank and tried to start it. Fires on one cylinder and that badly! All the plugs have good spark and I am reasonably sure timing is close so I guess the carbs will have to come apart (or go out to Pistol Pete like my other two sets). These already have the Randakk kit in them so I kind of hate to give up so easily.
On another note, I put all the plastic parts on for a test fitting and to see what she might look like. Fortunately I didn't go to final paint first since I discovered a conflict with the fold-down side covers and the seat.
Just took a few minutes to trim the seat back to clear the shelter side panels but it would have been a major issue if the final paint was already on.
Here she is dressed in gray flannel. Except for the very important issue of getting her running, everything else is down to minor details (like the paint and seat pad and instruments).

Re: It just looks like trash!
Here is a better view of the seat/tail section that has given me so much trouble. I think I have put as much time into making this work as any other single part on the bike. But I think it is going to be OK. I have a tail light that fits perfectly and it includes the license plate holder so I think that is all set.

Lookin' good!
If you have the Randakk DVD, give it a go! What is the worst that could happen? If the kit is there, but hasn't been run, maybe something just isn't where it is suppose to be.

Re: It just looks like trash!
I have been away for vacation and the weather has just been way too hot to work outside until late evening. I pulled the carbs and was surprised at how easily they came off. Much easier than on the 1100. Anyway the first thing I noticed was my reflection in the number 2 cylinder intake opening. It was completely full of gas.
Obviously the float was stuck open on the number two carb. I have debated with myself about attempting the carbs myself but I don't really have a place to work on them unless I take them to my office. It is just too hot and too dirty/messy in the carport. My patient and understanding wife would not be patient and understanding about me bringing them into the house. SO, it is off to Pistol Pete.
Meanwhile I have to work out a seat pan and pad, muffler mounting straps, horn and gauges and probably a few other things I have forgotten.

That is the best looking seat pan I have seen. What was the blank from that you started with?

Re: It just looks like trash!
Sunbob, I don't know the brand, it was actually a used item on ebay but if you scan ebay you will see the same one from time to time. The only problem with it is it is so shallow under the seat area. The material is ABS (or something like it).
