Im going to be doing my fork springs this weekend, I have a couple of questions.
1. Which way up does the progressive spring go? Im thinking tight wind at the top.
2. Will replacing the air caps and running no air make it sit lower and will it have less travel? I find that the forks can travel up about 3". Is this correct?
I'm bumping this so an 1100 rider can/will confirm. I think it's tight wound up and with Progressive's you shouldn't need air. That's what I did with mine with 41mm Magna shocks.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

I have a front fork problem.
Bought fork springs from Wirth and all data says they will fit but they will not go all the way down the fork tube.
Nothing is in the way.
Is there any local Surrey/Kent GL1100 wing owners that i can try my new springs with?

How far do they stick out? Many bikes I work on the springs won't be completely inside the forks. Need to push then in with the cap.

A foot is too much. I just rebuild the forks on a CB750 and once the forks are extended, the springs sticks out by about 2"-3". And it's a pain to install the upper cap at that lenght.
Can you get the old spring in without problem? If yes, the only thing I can see is that the diameter of the new one is too large.

That was my next thought. But then I thought, he surely has a jack or something under the bike to take the load off the front end.

I hope I don't insult him by posting that...I discovered it changing the fluid in mine. I lowered the bike down to make sure all the fluid was out and the spring came out of the fork.
