What did you do about fresh ignition coils, does not seem like OEM stock would still be good? Looking great Ray.

I ran the engine before taking it apart. Original coil seemed to work fine. NOS is NLA, but might be had by searching around. Plan is to fire the engine today or tomorrow, we'll see what happens

If you try today or tomorrow, you will be needing a lot of choke. But seems like you will find another option if you have a weak spark.

Connected a remote tank to start the engine (sealer in stock tank needs to dry a little longer).
Didn't need to choke it too long (shop temp about 60deg). Startled me it fired so quickly, went right up to 3,000rpm. Adjusted the idle screws and then the pilots. Left carb pilot wouldn't adjust. Double checked the coil, it was firing good. Checked the exhaust temp... left side was down 35-50deg than the right. Thinking I might have a plugged idle jet or restricted passage. Will work on it later this week. Other than that it sounds really good, and the charging system works (12.4v@idle, 13.7v@3500rpm)

Took the left carburetor off. Idle jet was plugged. The orifice is really small, and I think some "crap" that might have been in the fuel line worked its way in.

Got it back together. Here's a short video of it running (sorry about the finger). Stills needs some tuning, but sounds good.



Still letting the sealer dry in the gas tank. Might get it on this weekend, along with the seat. Then I can ride it when weather permits.

Yesterday, put the petcock on the tank. Tested it for leaks before mounting it on the bike. No Leaks

Since it was Saturday; I couldn't get insurance to ride it. But I couldn't resist... took it around the block (about 2 miles). I was so excited, I took off without a helmet. It ran & sounded great. Shifted through the gears, took it up to 50mph.

Unfortunately; the weather is turning colder, so won't ride her til maybe next weekend.

I'll post some better pictures later, but here's a couple after getting back.

Took the bike to see my friend Charlie in Galesburg. Put about 70 miles on it, ran great!

Still considering options, but here's one of the mods in progress...

Thanks. The CB175 was a step back in time for me. Hope to put many miles on her.

I'll start a new thread after a while on the '72 350. Sorting through the various options, and seeing what feels right and can make work. More to come.

Beautiful work Ray. How is the suspension and power for a guy like you who is used to bigger iron? The light weight must make it a joy regarding handling. Love to know more about your impressions.

The 175 was a project from my past. It doesn't have the torque or power to compare with larger bikes, but it does have an appeal all its own. Haven't broke in the engine yet, so seeing the redline will have to wait. Suspension is good, and the bike's weight gives a level of confidence not seen with larger/heavier bikes.

For me, the 175 is the right bike for my MBS. Its small, its a Honda & its fun to drive.
The GW is the bike I drive the most and it has its own character & memories.
I never had a CB750 back in the day, but promised myself I'd have one. Its one of those bikes that people reminisce about and great stories generally follow.
The Rune is just big, different, custom in its way & handles better than you might think.
The CB350 will be a custom build that bridges between vintage and the modern classics. Will need to handle well, and have a little attitude from the engine.

Appreciate the kind words & interest throughout the project. Looking forward to the 350.
