WOT cold
Front right, 205
Rear right, 210
Front left, 190
rear left, did not test this when cold. I had the charger on but seems the battery started to sag too much.

Warmed up engine for 15-20minutes, started with the rear left cylinder:
Front right, 200PSI
Rear right, 200PSI
Front left,190PSI
Rear left, 180PSI

Seems to be alright, and the leak down test also confirmed the cylinder/pistons/valves to be in order.

Near 20% leak down isn't great though. That high you should have some air leaking someplace.

While your numbers are good, your #4 cylinder (rear left) is out of spec of between the others. You can try putting a few drops of oil down in that cylinder and try your test again to see if it comes up. May want to revisit the valve adjustment on #4 as well.

Chances are you have either a collapsed ring, or worn rings…either way that cylinder is low.

Maybe I missed it. What does the plug in that cylinder look like compared to the other 3?

Thanks :)
Weird thing is that it smokes out of the right cylinders. Maybe all of the rings have aligned to the exact same position letting oil through?

don't those individual cylinder compression test result numbers seem unusually high?
Are the GL1100 engine compression test numbers specs that much higher than the Honda Shop Manual GL1000 test specification of 171psi?

Guess it could be the tool that is not of the highest quality? ;)

I never put much faith/stock in compression numbers. I look for consistency. And I use the same gauge for any engine so at least that part is the same. There are things that can change the numbers too even on the same engine with the same gauge. Compression gauge is a good tool no doubt. But you need to follow that with a leak down. And you need to listen for where air is escaping from. There will always be some. You just don't want a lot. ;)

Managed to find a brand new speedometer for another Honda on ebay for reasonably money. It is not geared the same as the GL so I might need the drive of a CB550/750 or similar if it fits the axle. Or just relearn what the different speeds are ;)
