From Henk Slim:
The front fender is from a Honda CB 750 the wan with a 16 inch front wheel
be cores the wheel in the Goldwing is 16 inch acrond whit stainless steel
spokes and the same tire ass normally is at the back wheel from Continentel
you can also put this wane on the front wheel in the opposite turning
direction I had to adjust the fender to fit on the original fitting of the
chrome GL 1000 fender I also put a stabilizer on it to make the bike more
stiff at the front for better steering the brake discs are from a GL1000 k2
be cores the original discs didn't fit on this wheel

Tires are a subject that I have always wanted to ask a question about.

What are the handleing changes when the tires are changed this drastic on a bike like the one in the photo?

Why are the front tires smaller than the rear on stock bikes?

If the factory does so much engineering on these bikes what is gained when these type of changes are made?

my hunch.... and only a hunch is that a fatter, but smaller inside diameter tire on the front (outside diameter really is the same) does not have much effect on the handleing.... changing the trail byt chopping the front, or dropping the rear would have a greater effect on steering

Looking at this logically, smaller section tyres are used to lower the amount of force required to turn the bars. Because of friction when at standstill and because of gyroscopic effects at higer speed (the heavier the tyre the more force is generated. If a larger section tyre is fitted the effort required to steer a bike would increase. A smaller diameter wheel would make it a bit easier as the mass is not travelling so fast (centrifical speed) at a given road speed
I would imagine its something like that, could be completly wrong of course :)
Just my 2c worth.

a bigger mass tire certainly would have more inertia than a smaller mass tire... I wonder, though, a 16 inch rim has potentially less metal than a 19 inch rim.... but then again the early wings had spokes, which weigh less than cast...

I can see a science project here for sure
