I received the air shocks I got from ebay this morning. Aside from losing oil in transit due to a shipping error, everything looks to be in great shape. I've also decided to get the seat from Pago Cruiser, ugly as it is, for a spare. The plan for that one is to cover it in leather, not vinyl, to see how big a difference that makes. Does any one have an extra passenger back rest they want to part with, that way I can redo it at the same time and have it match?

Well, the major work will begin SOON. I've got the water pump, the gaskets and o-rings, including the ones for the crossover tube, antifreeze, oil filter, timing belts, and degreaser. I just ordere the spin on adapter from Randakk, and I need to pick up the oil. She is going to be moved to a garage either tomorrow or Monday, and then the tear down begins. I want to thank everyone that has contributed to the timing belt change thread and water pump change threads in advance. If it weren't for them, I probably wouldn't be trying this on my own.

Well, I finally got to start on changing the water pump last Monday. I was held up due to the garage I am using usually only has one bay at a time free and the owners been doing some side work in that bay.

I thought I was going to be able to do the job with the fairing mount in place, but that didn't turn out to be the case. I pulled the radiator, and finally got down to the meat and potatoes of the install. I pulled the water pump cap off, and did Roady's jiggle and wiggle test. I had probably a 1/4" movement in any direction, so yep it had to be done.

When I started to remove the cover, I kept meeting resistance. It didn't matter what I tried, that thing wouldn't budge. After a second glance, I found a bolt that I hadn't removed. It was counter sunk into the cover on the top right hand side. Took that one out and the thing just about fell off. Now for the clean up. I've got the new pump mounted into the trans cover, but it will be a couple more day's before I'm ready to crank her back up.

The water pump install is complete as of Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010 12:00 P.M. CST. Not much to it after getting the old one out. :guitar Everything went back together with out a hitch, and the only problem that I have noticed is a small, and I mean small, drop of oil underneath, and I think that came from where I didn't clean the bottom of the engine. Before, if I ran her for more than 5 min at a time, I had a full blown puddle, so I think I can handle a drop. After everything was buttoned up, I let her run for probably 15 min or more, cycled the fan a couple of times, and kept an eye on the temp gauge. It never got above mid gauge, so I was very happy. dancr dancr

I added a spin on oil filter adapter while I was at it. The only issue with it is, I don't like Fram filters very much, so I decided to go with a Motorcraft, I'm not sure about the white filter sticking out the front of the engine so I'll have to work on that with the next oil change. Any suggestion? confused22

Now for the bad part, I'm going to have the replace the timing belts with the radiator in place. My plan was to do it while I had the radiator out on this job, but the owner of the shop was rushing me to get it out of his way, so that had to wait. And, while I was taking her off the lift, she fell over on her side and the hot exhaust landed on a blue tarp in the floor, SO, I have to figure out how to get the plastic off the exhaust manifolds. censored2 fly into a rage censored2 Any suggestions there?

just get a rattle paint can and spray the new filter a few days before you use it

Where did you get that seat, Pago? I would love to see the bike it came from! I bet it was wild.

I started laying the paint it her yesterday. She's not going to be a show stopping bike, but I like the color so far. I plan on adding the second color this weekend, as long as the weather holds out. Here are a couple of pics of the base color.

Johnny, cool color!! Check with Dave at cyclepsycho for the passenger backrest, I got a real good one from him out of the pile of NOS parts. VERY reasonable.

Not a lot of progress as of late, but I did finally get the second color sprayed. Unfortunately I'm going to have toredo part of it because the tape pulled part of the paint with it.

Here ate a couple of pics of the good pieces.

Well, I worked on the ongoing oil leak last night. Wasn't able to get it started then, due to lack of fuel, but fueled it up this morning, and cranked her up. In the beginning, I was a little upset. As she warmed up, I noticed a drip of oil still coming from the weep whole. crying1 censored2 censored2 As she warmed up more and more, the drip became less and less. So I'm happier at this point. No more major dripping seen this evening before I left, which is a plus because there was a puddle of oil underneath the front of the engine, like I had an old Harley parked there instead of an old Wing.

We were able to get the clear sprayed on yesterday as well. In the sunlight, it has a pearl tone to it that I wasn't expecting. I'm elated. A couple of things with the paint are a couple of runs that you can't see unless you know they are there, and you can tell it wasn't professionally done, so I expect some smirks and sneers from people that see it in person, but like I've said before, she's not a show bike, she's going to be ridden, ALOT.

You can't tell much by this pic, but you can see the reflection of some of the parts in the others so you can tell the clear is there. I need to get better pics for posting. Now I've got to start putting it all back together.
