Even tho they came out really clean,
I'll probably send all of these stuff out along with the side covers and the front fender for a new coat of paint.
JET BLACK with a few coats of clear.

What is a headlight BUCKET???
I'm presuming I'll need that to mount a new headlight to some new ears that attach to the forks?
Are they called ears?
Got a link to something for sale? ebay? hd? so i can see a picture of what i need to get?
just a reminder, the fairing is NOT going back on this bike. I need something to hold the headlight and the turn signals

Straighten the wires out, and pull them back inside the shelter. Those that remain can be wrapped with black tape to help blend them in.

This is an Interstate for sure. The interstate had no Honda emblems on the faux tank.

Ok so I have this seat. It's not the factory seat (at least i don't think it is) and it's pretty worn. The fabric that you sit on seems in really good condition. the whole thing has NO tears. but you can see the leather is really worn.
I'm going to see if i can bring it back to life with some leather treatment (i'll ask my wife the pro!!)
But when i placed it on top of the bike while it was naked, i thought it looked kind of big. Huge is more like it.

SOOOooooo.. anyone want to trade me for a smaller seat? If you look at the original pic of the bike at the top of this thread, it comes with a front seat back rest and a back seat back rest. I'll take it off the trunk for anyone who can show me something smaller that i'll like. I want to be comfortable but at the same time, I'm not the tallest guy in the world. I'd LOVE to be able to put my feet FLAT on the ground when I'm at a light instead of TIPPY TOED!!! :D lol

IT's called a "Travelcade"?

So here is where I'm at with the bike right now. I want to powerwash the hell out of what's left.
I'll spray the whole bike down with some GreenClean to see if i can clean up any of the grease and soot and garbage first.

Does anyone see any problem with powerwashing? I'm not worried about paint, I'm more worried about electrical problems.
I took out the battery just in case (you can see it sitting on the bench in the background)
I'm also concerned about any water getting in the air intakes so i'll cover them just in case.

What do I need to do this with the head light, front turn signals and rear turn signals?
http://www.ngwclub.com/gallery/v/naked_ ... g.jpg.html

*EDIT* I just saw some pics from the gallery here... duh.. a little searching goes a long way..
So I see I can buy "Ears" for a GL1100 that have the turn signals on them and then grab any side-mount headlight?
anyone have any examples? ebay maybe?

OH and the wiring harness for the front light and turn signals?!!?!!?
What should I do about that? Should I dig into the old fairing and cut up the harness from there. I'd just want to keep the wires i need for the headlight and turn signals.

WOW... I haven't gotten a lot done at work today. :)

I want to apologize to anyone who reads this next line and says "It's a shame"..
I'm don't think I'm going to tear this thing all the way down to the frame, repaint, and completely restore to mint condition.
Honestly, I just want to ride!! Maybe some day in the future when I have a spare bike or something, I'll attack this again. But not now. I want to get this done quick and dirty.

1) I'll either replace the carbs or rebuild them next week (hopefully only $200 bucks)
2) Change the timing belt (I hope that's not as hard as it sounds)
3) new headlight and turn signals (front and rear)

then slap this beast back together. MAYBE I'll hit some of the covers with a coat of flat black paint. I'm probably going to yank off the front fender too.

Your posts really made me smile big time. You have great enthusiasm and lots of good questions. After my head stops spinning I'll read the answers that you get and chime in if I can but in the meantime...you have an awesome start, it looks a lot better already.

You have definitely jumped in with both feet, arms and head.

Your bike is definitely an interstate. I have an 83 which I turned into a bagger. The interstate did not have all the swag that the Aspencade had. That is why you do not have an air pump etc.

Good luck. And keep at it.

I forgot to mention-You don't need the radiator wings. I bought a cheap set off ebay when I converted mine but others have left them off with no problems.

I need a "how to" on removing the radiator and changing the timing belts.
I also need to know how to mount the headlight and turn signals in the cheap.

Check shoptalk, see below, on the belt change info.

Lots of different ways to mount the headlight and turn sigs. Look around in the gallery for ideas.
