Re: So It begins Again, Yellow Bike (Update 9/04/11)
I installed rear cover and clutch today.

Don't forget starter gear.

Check the thickness friction plates. They were well in specs. Picture did not show it.

What I finished today.

I think I'm going to revisit the the clutch. After reading Old Folgey's Bin the Damper plate. I'm going to be changing my Cafe clutch as well with Barnett clutch kit and ordered 2 extra plates for it so I can remove the damper from it as well. So when I do it I can take 2 of the old plates from the Cafe and us them on the yellow bike.
Also I have an old stock Barnett kit (just the friction plates and there only 6) that I may us on the yellow bike that is if I can pic up some more friction plates.

There are all great pic's. Nice to see someone crack the engine case and was able to put it all back together again. Keep the story coming. This is good stuff!

I am also at the same point as you, took my whole bike apart, just not the 2 engine halves..(very interested
) But Dont know if that is smart since I will need the silicone gasket sealer like you did.
Is it smart to use ballbearing grease on the bearings that are inside the engine? Like the bearing that is on the driveshaft. Or is the normal engineoil good enough?

I have been told to use light weight grease on bearing assembly as when the engine first fires, you want nothing dry; as it takes a few moments to fill all the passages with engine oil as the oil pump begins working again.

Here were I'm at right now.
First I decided not to us stock clutch and replaced it with Barnett clutch and springs.

Also I bin Clutch Damper Plate like Old Fogey.
2nd I moved forward to replacing seals on heads.

They were pretty bad and most of them crumble.

New ones.

One installed

Now for the rest.

Next put head on.
I already tap block for the heads.
Lube the bolts and installed the heads on block.

Now the other side.

Re: So It begins Again, Yellow Bike (Update 10/23/11)
Where did you find the valve spring compression tool? I've been toying with the idea of replacing the valve seals on the right side head of my own '76 yellow since I've pulled the engine to replace the stator. I'll probably end up replacing the seals on both sides anyway, but having the right tool certainly would make the job easier.2nd I moved forward to replacing seals on heads
Thanks.
