Re: 40 Build
Before installing the main shaft the 'guides' need to be placed in line. There are three, two smaller half circles, and one larger one.
Then just place them into the groove.

Re: 40 Build
there is a large piece of sheet metal type stuff that goes in before the guide. has a rubber edge around it. kind of a splash guide. its molded to fit the bottom of the case, and the rubber guide mounts to it. or is that in the other case

Re: 40 Build
Ok, I know what you are talking about Cyborg - I think it is this pieces that goes in the left case half (in the middle).

Not quite!pierce wrote:Remove the shift forks from the shaft, and orient them correctly. The tow outer forks go in the grooves on the countershaft, and the middle fork will fit into the main shaft, so it will just sit there (for now). Then slide the shaft through the opening and insert in into the forks. So far nothing has taken any force, just slides right in.
Forks are done.

Re: 40 Build
Thanks old Fogey - I hadn't posted up on the pin just yet. will post the pictures as soon as I have a few minutes.
The pin holds the shift shaft in place from spinning as the very last gear (closes to the rear) will hit the shaft so it is indented on two sides. The pin hold the indent so the gear is free to turn.
I now have the main shaft, primary chain, chain guide, crank and oil seal in place. Pictures to come shortly.

Rod, In those pictures I haven't installed the crankshaft. All that has been installed in those photos is the drum, countershaft, chain guide, chain oiler and the shifter forks.

Re: 40 Build
Christmas came early! Received my vesrah complete engine gasket set, and a whole slew of oem Honda stuff complete with all engine oil seals needed, new dowels and a few other odds and ends that I needed to complete the engine.
So, next step is to get the main shaft, primary chain and crankshaft in.
