No hiccups at all, Idles very nice and smooth, at 1000 rpm.
Revved it to 2k held it there, held it at 3k, then 4k for 30secs. each very smooth.
Revved into secondaries to 8k+ Nice and very fast!!
Surprisingly Fast to 8K+ really fast.
No flat spots at all, Only sweet spots.
This was all at No load.
Restarts are excellent.
Starts Instantly.
It really revvs FAST

I did change to the MP08 GL1500 Coils and used the GL1500 spark plug Wires to.
If you look in the pictures you can see that the spark plug wires a couple of them take a funny turn.
But they were in spec for a GL1500 that is.
The GL1500 ignition coils and wires are much better than what I had on the bike before.

In that E book it explains a lot about the 740 & 32DFT & 32/34DFT carbs.,
They have a High altitude compensation that can be setup on these carb.s to auto-magically compensate to a slightly leaner mixture for high altitude conditions
Good Info ah!

For that air filter i used a large diameter O-ring, that fit around the carb top, it seals really well.
When i started it this time, to really listen to it running, without any enthusiasm or maybe concentration to block it out.
That Engine sounds really good, I am noticing the cam lope much more than i did before, with the OEM carb rack.
It sounds more like a Healthy V8 Camaro with a nice mild cam in it now, rather than a Goldwing, Were did my goldwing go?
The Intake sound is noticeable, and sound's really good too.
Should i put a Chevy Bowitie on it to scare away the HD's

1. Finished cutting out the throttle cable Hold bracket, I really put that off, I knew building a part with manual tools i am better with power tools.
2. Cut out lower plate for Air Filter so that it would fit carb. top, installed Large O-ring as Carb to filter seal.
To do list for tomorrow, yea like i am going to follow that list.
1. Oil & Filter change on engine, a couple of hydro locks and sitting for a while, i think it is a good idea, see that i am going to put it under a load and give it a test ride.
2. Air filter is going to be fastened by a piece of all thread, nut & a rubber washer, with metal washer, & Wing Nut.
3. Get a longer piece of hose for Crankcase breather to new air filter base plate
4. Longer screws into front of VW manifold for carb hold down, as new throttle Cable hold bracket, I am only two threads on the fastener, Mil spec requires at least 3.5 threads per fastener.
Some Pictures
#1 shows large O-ring as filter to carb seal
#2 & 3 shows the uni-link throttle cable attachment, there is now way that oem cable end is getting out of there.
#2 & #3, #4, & #5 you can see my cable hold Bracket, it still needs some primer & paint.
#4 you can see the OEM "D" washer, & adjustment nut on the throttle cable
Throttle cable may some slack taken out of it, but for now it is fine, fine for testing that is.
I may also need a slight twist adjustment in the throttle cable hold bracket, so it is at a better angle.
Throttle cable hold down Bracket is 3/16" thk. steel
We do have Full Throttle with this cable and bracket combo,
In fact, the OEM Honda throttle pull is Longer than this Weber Single Carb. Conversion setup.

But Like I said it feels more like riding a GL1500 6 cyl.
Meaning More torque than my GL1100 from the factory had, and being able to pull high gears at low Rpm's that is impressive, and very GL1500 like..
Very Smooth, throttle transition is just plain smooth as glass.
That added torque is, and now was the advantage of the 6-cylinder Goldwings.
The GL1500, does not maneuver as well as a naked GL1100/GL1200
GL1500 weighs 900-lbs
GL1100I Interstate weighs 694-Lbs
GL1100 Standard weighs 599-Lbs
GL1100 Naked weighs 575-Lbs or less
I had a GL1800, and those just plain do everything right, i went through the suspension, it handled Great.
But they are Bigger and heavier, than the 4cyl. oldwings.
And those 6cyl. bikes feel heavy at slower speeds, and are heavy stopping, & going through turns,
4cyl. Oldwings Can be very sporty, when they are kept light, and the suspensions & Brakes are gone through, and Now with all this NEW added Torque, & Power the playing field has swung the other way
The only real PROBLEM i had, while riding the New Single carb'd conversion was trying to keep it out of that secondary
That secondary made riding the bike FUN!!

Could I Interest you in either one of our 4-carb boat anchors, the one in front is the Fresh Water the one in back is a Salt Water version.
Really My GL1100 Carb rack was functioning really well my bike ran good with them.
What really Pi$t me 0ff was the hydro locking, which was my fault, but I wanted to try something else.
I felt i could not trust the bike with Those carbs. If i forgot one time while i was out, i would be stranded, further showing to me the unreliability of it.
Actually that one in front was my induction for the GL1100, one in back is the carb. rack from the GL1200 that is going to be a reverse trike project.
That may also be turned into a single carb conversion.
That Hammer in the picture is in case that GL1100 carb rack gives me a dirty look, Pow!
Or overboard she'll go arrr!!
The other is a single barrel 34PICT3
I would like to try the 740 carb. I have on the GL1100, after i do some more testing of the 32DFT carb.
I have to remove the choke, make a seal plate for the choke.
Question, Why is my gas mileage so bad on my Golwing with my stock OEM 4carb. Rack, answer cause all you fuel is on top of the engine and on the floor hydro-lock.

Both fuel filters are full, and the Fuel tank Valve was left in the on position, for a few days, no Fuel leaks past the float valve yet on the single carb..
Cold start at 9:00 a.m. 61 degrees out.
Three pumps of the accelerator pump.
Hit the Start "O" and started right up, then low rev engine a few times maybe 6 times, up to 2k rpm to keep it running, then vista CC on at a 2k rpm's, then hold for 30 sec.s then off and idles perfect at 1K rpm.
I let it idle for one more minute, then time to ride.
This is a better cold start than with the OEM carb rack, as the OEM 4carb would be cold blooded for longer.
I would get some spittback through the carbs while cold and occasionally when warm.
The Single Carb does NOT do this At all, No Spitback at all since it has been running.
Note On Restart, It is Instant on, no low revving to 2k at all, just instant start and let it idle, at 1000 rpm then ride.

posting links is a problem, because they expire and then you have bad/broken link.
Below is CIP's part number, & description C13-3241 - CENTER SECTION FOR 2 BARREL PROGRESSIVE WEBER CARB -
$59.95 internet price, but higher if you call it in go figure.

I will report back Mileage when the new-ness wears off a little.
I have not had the time to figure it out, as i am still on my first tank since the conversion
Most of the riding i am doing is thrill riding. Adrenaline rides
Testing its power capabilities, and it has passed that test with flying colors
It has turned no Transformed into a very easy to ride bike, this is a very mild mannered bike to ride or to cruise around town, it fills that roll Great, but it has this other side, this powerful Hot rod side, that just plain Hauls A$$

I did not mention the obvious secondary improvement pluses.
As these are side benefits, that, while Nice, are a secondary benefit for me.
See below for the Improvements
Primary benefits: That are Better to Much better than the stock Oem-4 carb rack.
No More Hydrolock
Single Carb Simplicity
Easier Maintenance, To remove single carb, four nuts, removed from top with a 12mm socket wrench, less than 5 minutes removes the carb. from the manifold, try that with the OEM carb. rack
Drive-ability Improvement
Faster Revving of Engine
Nice Engine Idle at 1000 rpm
More engine Torque throughout the power band, and all the way up to Redline.
Engine pulls harder from a lower engine RPM
No engine lugging at a lower engine RPM in a high gear, or like 2000 rpm in 4th gear or 5th gear
Less shifting of gears, because there is more torque.
6 cyl. like torque
Easy Cold starting
Instant warm starting
Fast! Throttle Response
Engine warms up faster, or Maybe drive-ability has Improved so much, that you can ride bike much sooner after a cold start, Note: Just take it easy till completely warm up
No choke needed
Secondary Benefits:
No more multi carb Sync, ing
No More Spitting back through the carbs while running, Even a rebuilt, well tuned carb. rack can have spitting through the carbs

Now the comparison between Single carb and 4 OEM carbs
I did a comparison of the GL11-1 Vs the GL12-4
or tried to,
Temp 71 degrees
First off let me say that i dont think this will be a fair comparison.
The time lapse in between makes it tough.
I was thinking how I can do this and remain Neutral and still provide accurate info.
Riding Back To back comparisons, and trying to compare them using a seat of pants comparison, will not be accurate
As far as Speed is concerned,
My GL1200, is no Slouch, it is fast,
My GL1200 is a 1200cc bike, it was a faster than my GL1100 was before, when both had 4 carbs.
So the comparison is almost impossible.
Keep that in mind.
Also there is No Secondary on the GL1200 oem 4-carbs
The single carb doubles its Lung capacity the last third or so, of the total throttle length of pull.
Meaning do I test using single barrel only both barreals only, a combo of the two, or the amount of throttle,
But the amount of throttle pull is in accurate due to there being a secondary that open late in the throttle Length of pull.
My GL1100 1-Carb Conversion is also Fast, Riding around on the 1st bbl. is very Very nice, you could use only the primary, and it is enough for 95% of getting around town, freeway, Cruising, That secondary really gets things moving fast.
I have ridden the GL11-1 full throttle going throuh the gears, it is Fast!, More than what you need, More than what I need.
You will surprise a lot of people with it, hell Im surprised
Power delivery comes on differently, between the 2 bikes,
this also makes it tough to compare, that and having the time lapse in between the rides.
If you Full throttle both Bikes then it is Torque Vs Horsepower and i am not even sure about that.
If i had to say the GL1100-1 against GL1100-4 the Single would win hands down.
If I had to say which one between the GL11-1 and the GL12-4, How Long a distance? This is difficult.
If i had the pick one, I would say that, The GL11-1 seamed faster than the GL12-4.
If i had to pick which one is easier to ride GL11-1
Which one is the most Fun to ride the GL11-1, with a comment
Comment:
The GL12-4 used to be the bike that was more fun to ride for me, That has changed
The GL11-1 engine does much more right, during a ride, from start up to shut down, Hands down the Winner is the GL11-1
Before i had ridden the GL11-1, My thought is that the GL11-1 would be faster to a Point, then the 4 carb. would take over, but that 32DFT has provided plenty of top end.
With the Single carb You may have upped the Top end some, I took the GL11-1 to 110mph, it was still going, I will not be the one to provide a top end test. That nearly scared the schnitzle out of me, I think 130mph could be accomplished
The top end
Other things I can report on
Cold Start up
GL1200 1/2 choke, push button started up, ran a little rough, like a cold oldwing does, Let run at 1/2 choke for 2 minutes, removed choke/enrichment, ran it at Idle for another 3 minutes at idle.
engine was spitting, and running as a cold wing does.
Then got on pulled away, engine still spitting some engine needed some choke back on, 1/4 choke on, ran slow to warm up to full operating temp maybe 5 minutes of riding normal cruising,
Cold Start up
GL1100-1 No Choke so i did not even bother Pumped throttle 4 times, (I am still experimenting with best cold start method) push the the Make fire button, she started fast, i gave a very small pump, she stopped, gave 2 pumps restarted, then about 6 small pumps to keep it running, then hold on at 2k rpm.
Note: At this point the engine was very smooth and ran at 2K very good even as the 2 minutes barely started it was much better than the GL12-4 did by the end of the 2 min.
I Let the GL11-1 run there at 2k for 2 minutes, then idle for another 3 minutes, just Like i had done with the GL12-4
The GL11-1 was ready to ride, it did not seem to be cold blooded at all, by the way it was running, it was a smooth runner, but i still took it easy till up to Operating temp
Restart of both engines
I let them both sit for about 10 minutes each
GL12-4 took was not as happy to restart and took a couple of milliseconds longer on the starter, there was a definite difference.
Note: No throttle Pump is needed for restart at all, I was afraid i would flood it, if i did because it is so fast restarting, I have never flood the engine up on start.
GL11-1 , it Was very easy, and Very Fast restart restart is INSTANT!!, with very short time on the starter was used
