Update...we're having a heat wave! It's 0°F. I guess I'll get out the SPF 40 and "cop some rays!" Hehe.

It was 20 when I left my house, I THOUGHT it got colder as I came north ... 14 degrees!
My fingertips got achingly cold, reminding me of the frostbite I suffered in 1981.
Heated gloves would've been ideal.

I've been leaving the Oldwing outside next to the house and it wouldn't start this morning.

Being retired I try and stay at home whenever the weather/roads are bad, and only go out if I have too. I live just barely outside of the city of Calgary, so only about 15 minutes gets me to the closest supermarket in the city, and another 15 minutes, in the opposite direction gets me out to my shop. Some days I do wish my shop was co-located at the house. I mostly do the slower back roads, and I avoid the higher speed highways/freeways whenever I can in bad weather. Just too many jerks who feel they must go the speed limit, or above, all the time, come sleet, snow or ice.

81F in Phoenix yesterday (1/7)

Cooled off today with a few clouds. Only got to 71F.

Rode the big wing over to ASU to see my son yesterday afternoon. Sweated a little under the helmet.

Helicopter rotor blades are infamous for giving low pressure warnings when a cold front goes through.
Air pressure in helicopter rotor blades? How is compressed air used in rotor blades? Deicers on the leading edge?

Hush, you! lolol

We got quite a bit of snow out my way. Several inches, at least. The most we've gotten this winter. Temps were 11°F this morning, but without the wind it felt positively balmy.

I'm lucky in that, while I have to drive to work, it's from 6 am until 3 pm. The roads aren't great in the morning, but there's no traffic either. By the time I get off work the roads are usually pretty clear.

Needless to say, the bikes have been pushed FAAAAR into the garage. Wouldn't mind trying to fix up and have fun with my Trail 90, though...

In some helicopters they pressurize the hollow blades and then monitor the pressure as an aid in crack detection.

Exactly what Casper said. Dry nitrogen at a relatively low pressure (about 10 psi ) is used to monitor the blade spar integrity. Low pressure gives a caution light in the cockpit.

34 and raining sideways here right now. Calling for a bunch of ice by morning, many schools are announcing delays already.
