Until recently, I think the old GL's escaped getting seriously hacked in their youth and most survived fairly intact. Other UJMs and twins were not so lucky over the years. But, now that we lovers of buxom nakedness are having our way with the GL's, there's more funny stuff going on. Back "in the day" it was more about bling on the old Goldwings. Now, as Robin notes, could be anything.

The only reason it matters is because of part fitment. Will any part from a 75-77 interchange?

All the substantial parts from 75-77 are the same with the biggest exception being the carbs. Many had minor changes but should bolt up and work just fine.

Carbs are individually different in several ways, but essentially the same. Don't mix years within the same rack. Some 75 cams had a shorter stub on the fuel pump end of the left cam. Some 75 frames didn't have a bracing under the shelter that the rest do. Could be some other internal differences in various components, but almost everything from one will swap over. Most 77's had a thicker casing in the block to help quiet primary chain noise.

That's all I have that comes to mind.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Rednax and all others thank you. Ive owned 11 wings. My opinion is the wing is the best bike ever made. I do fear the carbs. I would pay 400 to let a ccarb guy do them. The 85 im looking at last ran in 2016. Why? Dont know yet. But the plastics and seat are in very good condition. It tells me somebody was proud of it. The seller would freak if he knew my plans. On saunders forum they say absolute must to have oem manual. Ty ty ty. All of you. This cast on my left arm makes working on a bike hard. But a jis screwdriver and a 10mm socket can get the plastic off. Again thanks everyone.

The 76 LTD had chrome engine mounts as well as all fasteners were chromed, it also had the higher handle bars vs the lower 75 & standard 76 versions ( I prefer the lower versions myself) ,,, the instrument faces were different year to year as well. The 75 & 76’s had the rounded upholstered log seat (terrible seat) vs the very nicely done flat seat of the 76 LTD that was used on the 77 as well, most of the 76 LTD upgrades transferred to the 77 version except things like the engine hangers and other chrome that were “show” chromed on the LTD versus industrial chrome on the normal wings. In all honesty though you would really need to see them side by side to see the differences.

On my 76 standard the engine mounts were nicely painted black when new but I chromed them later along with a lot of other hardware later as I really liked the LTD’s. I will add that parking my 76 LTD next to my standard 76 and looking at both there are a lot of other things that pop out with a lot of those LTD items transferring to the 77’s. Imho the 77’s are the best of the early wings as mother Honda learned a lot of things on the LTD’s that got added, much smoother & quieter imho.

In the pictures above the gauges appear to be 77’s as they have the km/hr ring and the color is different than the lighter green gauge faces of the standard 76’s and then black faces of the LTD’s.

The grease zerk on the swingarm appeared on the 76’s in response to customer complaints but is totally useless, just a marketing thing, it does absolutely nothing at all other than make the owner feel better about squirting some grease. Squirting that grease on your shoes will do as much good, Pure marketing BS !

Hope this helps some

I don't have to squirt grease on my shoes because I end up with oil on them after every ride.

Hopefully that's not going to happen after this winter's maintenance.
