Horsefly:
Those items tend to stay in the cc groups. !k seats can be fitted to 1100's with a little work with mounting brackets and such and I suppose vice-versa.The fork legs are different-37mm for 1k.39mm for 1100.The stems in the triple clamps are different as are the head bearings. Any thing can be made to fit anything with enough effort.Wheels do not cross over.
Shaun:
I think that is pretty doable, I believe there is a minor clearance issue with the 1100's advancing unit on the back of the engine and of course the wiring will have some differences. Someone who has done this should be along any moment.

Oil Drain Bolt
The oil drain bolt or (oil drain plug) size is 14mm x 1.5 for a gl1000.
I couldn't find this info when I searched for it here and I tried to put a 14 x 1.25 bolt in, oops.

starter selenoid for a '76 gl1000 (might fit others, dunno). manufacturer number 892-1221-210. i got this from napa. this is NOT their part number. it is the starter for lawn tractors and such. here is a link to the thread that i posted about the install. it has pictures! hooks right up, but needs to be fitted into place somehow. that is up to you.

Here's a few things....... probably only useful for us Europeans, but what the hell.
http://www.tarozzipaolo.it/inglese/home.htm
They have fork stanchions (I bought a set, very good), SS brake lines and engine crash guards. Plus lots of other goodies.
My GL1100 fork pipes were € 238 a pair (incl VAT) and the SS brake lines go for around € 90 a set (4 lines).
Drop them an email to find your local dealer.
Dave.

Re: Motor swap
If you run an 1100 transmission and a 1000 final drive the gearing will be way too low.stkelly2 wrote:Any body know if I can replace my 1000 with an 1100? I know the motor will bolt right in but what other issues Might I run into?
I have the opposite - a 1000 engine/transmission and an 1100 final drive and the overall gearing is more than a gear higher - the mileage is a lot better and I don't find myself looking for 6th gear nearly as often.

fork gaiters
OK, I'm obsessed! I REALLY want some fork gaiters (ala BMW or brit cafe ride) on my 78 gl1000 but of course they weren't stock...I'm wondering if the cb750 ones will work...anyone have any input on this? Other BSA or triumph or BMW rides that might work? Thanks in advance

The gaiters I use on my sidecar outfit were made for offroad truck rear shocks. I think I paid about $10 or $15 for them at Canadian Tire over 15 years ago. They have been on 5 bikes now with several fork diameters (they stretch). They still sell them and the price hasn't gone up much, so you should be able to find them locally.
