Ok, time for an update. I went to my ortho clinic today. They gave me permission to begin bending my right leg, but no weight bearing quite yet. The left thumb will start getting rehab along with the knee flex.
As far as motorcycles, My wife and I decided to put our Guzzi up for sale but keep the old wings for now. SIdecars may be in the future!
In the meantime I got something to keep the wind in my face:

I got the OK from Orthopedics to bear full weight on my legs. PT now has the goal of getting all those muscles that have been at rest strong and working better than ever. I was told my normal walk is not normal, so we're trying to go back to square one. Interesting and not without aches. As soon as I get the ok to drive, I hope to head up to Fargo to retrieve the 83 and the trailer. It will be nice to be mobile again.

I think PT stands for "physical terrorist". At least that is how it felt after my broken collarbone and rib after "flying off" my bike by a SUV crossing in front of me

Big day today. I had my last home physical therapy session and am ok'd for out patient therapy. Just as the home therapist was getting ready to leave, Theresa and Bud M pulled in with a trailer bearing the GL1100.
The motor looks good, and should run fine, but the rear swing arm looks bent, and who knows what may have flexed and cracked there. It is tempting to pull the motor and put it in the 78 frame. But, in the meantime I"ll get it started and run the carbs dry, drain them and put it away for winter.

Acetaminophen is my friend. I have made it through this whole process with my only pain relief being slow release tablets and Tylenol pm. Mornings are a bit more interesting and I am sure they will be for a while. The radiant heat from the wood stove is a welcome relief on colder mornings. But we keep moving on.

I developed a DVT in the right calf, so I'm ingesting rat poison on a regular basis, so that eliminated aspirin and ibuprofen. But after the left tibial fracture in 84 (deer/motorcycle accident) I have found that the 8hr Tylenols help. And yoga stretches. And warm weather!

I graduated PT with rave reviews. It sort-of helps being in shape before you have an accident I'm told.
I'm still debating about the bike. Do I fix it or part it out? I might throw it on the swap page and see if anyone needs an 83 engine in very good running order. It has lots of new in it, and it was running a lot better than my riding.
It could be set up in a 79 frame that I have, and hitched to a sidecar some year in the future. Or not. Ah decisions. The opportunities are endless. But how much time do I have, how much energy, and gosh, I wonder what else I could be doing.

Congrats on the recovery. Nothing is worth more than your health and family. I know this is blasphemy, but have you thought of getting a Spyder. I have kept my '85 Limited Edition - still like 2 wheeling, and was looking at a Spyder for my 70th b'day, but found one early that met all my needs and requirements, was made an offer I could not refuse, and it is sitting in the garage with the '85. Sure nice not putting the foot down at a stop. Keep the 1100 for a long term retirement type project if you have the room, keeps your hand in. My '85 has been a work in progress for 7 years. Still thinking of things to do to it.

Good luck.

Hey Ernest,
I have given the Spyders a look. There is a dealership in Sioux Falls across the parking lot from the Harley shop. I like the newer touring ones, but I'm not so sure about the price. My niece's mom (brother's ex-wife) and her husband both got rid of their BMWs and went to Spyders. The ride them all over the Southwest during the fall, winter and spring and love them.
I have three Goldwing projects, a 78 and a 79, and the 83,, so I do need to cull the herd a bit.

We went from '06 GL1800 to '21 Spyder RTL this last Spring. Still Have '78 GL1000 and RD400c for running around local, but the Spyder is great for touring. Not as much fun as 2 wheels and actually a little more work in twistys, less on the slab. They do take up the space of two bikes, however.
