1978 GL 1000 "The Tank" Resoration Project-Complete
So my project is complete...Had some performance issues and I finally figured it out last night. It seemed the bike would stutter just off idle and the #1 spark plug was always carbon fouled...so obviously running rich. Turning of the idle adjustment screw did nothing so off with the carbs once more! Adjusted the float once again and noticed the float pin was turned wrong (the spring was facing the wrong way). Not sure if that was the culprit or the float set to high but I immediately noticed a BIG difference. She runs like a dream!!!!!
For those tracking my progress and of course all the help, I can't say how much I appreciate it. I NEVER thought I could and would rebuild a motorcycle from the ground up with absolutely not prior experience. Here is a synopsis of everything that I did.
-New water pump and gaskets/o-rings
-New Barnett Clutch and EBC springs.
-Rebuild Starter (x2). I burned up my first attempt.
-Dyna Coils, Dyna Ignition
-MOFSET Regulator/Rectifier Setup
-New fork seals w/Daystar fork gaiters
-Randaak’s Super Brace
-Randaak’s Front Brake Master Cylinder
-Front and Rear Caliper rebuild
-Complete carb rebuild using Randaak’s Carb kit and DVD (the DVD was worth every penny)!
-Brake Rotors Drilled
-Front SS lines
-New Wheel bearings
-Randaak’s Electronic Fuel Pump
-Upside down Clubman Z-bars
-New metal headlight bucket
-3 yellow wire solder-stator fix
-All new throttle/clutch/choke cables
-Bridgestone Spitfire tires
-Chrome gauge covers
-Modified front and rear fender (a hacksaw job)
-Emgo Shorty mufflers
-Headers wrapped
-International F16 Windshield
-Halgon Rear Shocks

Wow, what a remarkable transformation. You've done a super job and documented your process very nicely.

You've certainly given it some major character there!
Nice job.

How about a detailed ride report? Seems like you have had her running well for a couple months now.
