checking to see what cc`s each chamber is & checking sping rate at a certian height (i have done that for my race car suspension springs)

So did i win lolol

Oh also , keep the mountain dew away from the dielectric grease can , so you don`t think it`s a drinking straw lolol lolol lolol

I knew it would be pretty simple. The Mt. Dew bottle doesn't have Dew in it. It is used for something else. ;)

CCing the heads was time consuming. Those of you who have looked at a GL1000 head know that there is a sharp ridge around the outer diameter of the combustion chamber. I wanted to remove that ridge to take away any potential "hot spots". Those can cause detonation. (if you look at the second pic close you can see it is now gone) That is also why I polished up the whole chamber. But that also means you might end up with different sized chambers. Which means slight variations in compression. So you measure all 4 chambers. Then have to start taking material out of the smallest ones. Then measure some more.

The springs are easy. I of course first checked to make sure all were up to spec. These had less than 10,000 miles and they all checked out very good. With the blower though I wanted to raise the spring pressure a little. You can go too much though because that just wears out the cams and rocker arms. I was shooting for about 10lbs more pressure at full lift. I ended up with 7. Doesn't sound like much but it should work pretty well.

Starting in on the paint job. One of my favorite things is picking out paint. There are so many options, it is easy to become overwhelmed. I want to stick as closely as possible to the original Bulldog paint scheme, so the challenge was finding a paint that matches closely. When it came to picking out the yellow paint, I must have spent an hour at the paint shop pouring over paint chip books. I finally settled on "Pulse Yellow Metallic". I even like the name. The hue is very close to the original Bulldog, however, the paint has a very fine metallic blended into it. It is hard to tell looking at the original Bulldog, but I do not think it had metallic in the paint. The original Bulldog paint was applied with a rattle can, the "Bulldog 2" will be applied with a spray gun and automotive paint.

The panels were sanded last week, and chips were repaired with bondo. A double coat of sand-able flat black primer was applied, and the covers allowed to cure for at least 5 days. Next I will wet sand them and prep them for the paint booth.

The base paint will be a high gloss black. Decals have been ordered and once here, will be applied to match the original bike.

The valve covers and timing belt covers have been polished, and the spaces between the rib details sanded. They were they masked and an ecthing primer applied. The valleys between the rib details will painted with the "Pulse Metallic Yellow, per the original bike.

The Pulse Yellow Metallic is used on a number of vehicles around 2010. The Hummer H2, and the Chevy Colbalt both used it.

Robin, Did you shim to increase the pressure? Or do you have a big old box of springs?

Shims, the springs in the original heads were in very good shape. Measured on the high end of acceptable Honda tolerances. I will be adding a .030" shim under the spring pad to get the extra 7lbs of pressure. There is a lot of measuring of installed spring height plus the full lift of the cam to get proper numbers. Plus the spring pressure tester. It's crazy the amount of money just it tooling to measure this kind of stuff. But to do port work and race heads it is a must.

Sunny, I think you picked a good shade of yellow. I like yellow (and understand that many do not) but many yellows are ugly, too green, too red or too pale. Its hard to hit the sweet spot on yellow particularly looking at a paint chip. Ford for a few years painted their pickups a very nice shade of yellow and even though Dodge's pickup yellow is close it isn't as pretty. Corvette yellow is a good shade and has some metal flake in it as well as the pearl yellow on the GL1800s. Here's hoping you like it as much after its been painted and out in the sunlight.
