As long as the wheels are square to the frame and to each other the tracking will be fine. In a straight line you'll never notice it. In a turn it may show up a little. Will probably turn a little different from left to right.bonneblktrk wrote:What would be the effect on handling if rear to front wheel tracking was off by 1/2". Wobble, constant lean, nothing?RT2 wrote:Centerline looks fine so far. Lay some "straight" 2 x 4's or old florescent light tubes alongside the rear tire wall, as you go to the front wheels...measure the distance from the "center of the front wheel rim" to each 2 x 4 or tube. This measurement is used to make sure the tires are tracking straight. Over the years I try to keep it as close as possible...1/16" (inch). But knowing how many of these bikes are built...1/8" - 3/16" is not bad at all.
It appears my center of the front axel is not on the centerline of the frame off by 1/2".
When I layed all this out from the old swingarm it appeared the rear tire was offset 3/8". Is this correct? Anyone ever check that alignment?
Thanks for any opinions/knowlege.

Re: Eight Pounds and 40 Stone Build
Another milestone.
Got the sssa trued up and tacked. Removed the alignment fixtures and put the differential on a jack and the wheel/drivetrain turns smoothly. No noises or binding. Swingarm pivot has a large range on movement.
Disassembled and tack more where I couldn't reach before to make sure it holds together while we figure out the shock mounts and bracing.

Re: Eight Pounds and 40 Stone Build
Hey thanks joedrum. The drive shaft is at a angle, there is a flexiable joint in the differential where it's splined shaft goes in. I have it near maximum angle but no binding and turns smoothly.
It's kind of engineer as it goes. If I had to make scale drawings of pieces beforehand, I would still be measuring and drawing. lol. Not thats not the better way of doing things. Some of it is "Eyeball Engineering": if it looks right it will probably work. ha.

Re: Eight Pounds and 40 Stone Build
Looks more like a motorcycle.
Wheels line up too!
I miscalculated the fork spacers, forgot to include the part that goes into the upper tree in the measurements, thats why they are extending the front end so much, 2 3/4". So have to decide on ride height and machine extensions for that measurement. Better to long than to short. ha.

Nice work looks great! Do you have brakes for the 'busa forks? If not I have a good link with all the compatable years in my build thread. I can post it here once I get home.

Re: Eight Pounds and 40 Stone Build
I think you covered it somewhere back in the previous 13 pages but the Busa Forks-- Are they shorter than the original forks and if so by how much. I am looking at a set from a Suzuki TL 1000s and they are a bit shorter than stock. I think they might work otherwise.
Following your build enthusiastically. Great work.

Re: Eight Pounds and 40 Stone Build
Thanks irishcarbomb, I have the brakes for the front.
Thanks Easter, the busa forks are 2-3 inches shorter than stock. I am using fork extensions to lenthen them 1-2 inches. Some here lower the bearing races which works also. I will shorten the extensions to get ride height level from the where I end up with the angle of the swingarm which is 7.5 degrees from horazonal which is what the Hayabusa rear suspension is which I am using.
Presently there is 8 inches ground clearance from lower frame tube, with the tires about 1 inch off the table.
