Re: For lack of a better name...GL1100 FIT build
Thanks to Sunnbobb for the inspiration...I had been trying to figure out a way to ditch the fuel pump. Took two or three good whacks with my 1/2lb dead blow and voila! Oh, and I did it without removing anything but the pump from the bike. Didn't take a lot of force so I cant imagine it doing any damage.
Now just need to order the parts to cover it up.

Is the points delete cover from 1100 the same for the fuel pump side?

I thought so but doesn't look like it, unless you drill/tap the head.

Hammers are indeed useful tools. At first I was going to have a cover machined to enclose the exposed tach drive gear, and fuel pump eccentric, but I think I will do as you have done and knock the little devil right off. It looks like just a shaped flat aluminum plate would work as a cover? Some nice round corners, and then polish it up real nice, I think it would look good. Once again, I learn from your experiences, ........and once again thanks.

thats the plan...I have some aluminum left over from the plenum/airbox cover that I made.Casper wrote:Hammers are indeed useful tools. Re: For lack of a better name...GL1100 FIT build
I wonder if a 1200 plate won't fit it. I think that's what some have used.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

I think a right side 1200 plate and I will be putting a can end plug like what is on the left head in as well. I am getting with a friend to build a CNC prototype aluminum cover.

Re: For lack of a better name...GL1100 FIT build
Been working on the turbo oil drain...originally planned on using -8an but since the angle will be a bit shallow I increased to -10an (5/8" id). Im hoping it will work but am not optimistic, I think I will most likely have to add a scavenge pump.
Waiting on an exchange with Summit to finish the oil lines...shouldn't be much longer...maybe 2-3 weeks before its ready to run.
Also FYI if anyone is interested the oil filler cap (on an 1100 atleast) is M24 x 1.5 thread
And please excuse the scracthes and scuffs on the engine paint...braided stainless does a great job at removing paint, I will be touching up once its all finished.

Where is the oil coming FROM that you are returning TO the filler hole?
I know the turbo, but what is it's feed to the turbo?

The feed is from the oil pressure switch port.

I think you had told me that. It was a set-up question.irishcarbomb wrote:The feed is from the oil pressure switch port.
Does the return fitting require a 'choke' i.e. a very small hole to maintain
system oil pressure?

Your drain size looks fine. My concern returning that high is possibly positive crankcase pressure. Anything positive will hinder return flow. The factory vent filtered might be some But is it enough??????????? Maybe returning directly to the sump at the drain plug location??????. My 2 cents........JB

Re: For lack of a better name...GL1100 FIT build
The drain is gravity out of the turbo. Pressure in but gravity out so you want as free flowing as possible. Ideally the drain would be more vertical but I'm going to try it out as is. May have to add a scavenge pump.
The turbo oil seals aren't meant to hold pressure, if it backs up the oil will leak past and it'll smoke like crazy.

That's the way i would've liked to do it but my concerns are:JBz wrote:Your drain size looks fine. My concern returning that high is possibly positive crankcase pressure. Draining below oil level would probably cause the drain to back up. It's just going to be a trickle into the filler cap.
Also the drain plug is relatively small compared to the turbo drain size adding to the restriction.
If you look at the old gl1000 turbo they fed from the pressure port and drained to the filler cap
