A forum for stories, pics and updates of your resto's. Be it a barn find, Grampas hand me down or a bike being brought back to it's former glory. If you are restoring it, show us your stuff!
I know I suck at updating this stuff...sorry guys. I've been swamped lately.... I started reassembly yesterday..ran into a few issues that slowed me down. I'm "hoping" to have a majority of the bike reassembled in the next 7-10 days...here's how I left it yesterday. I'll try to post a few photos as I'm building....wish me luck

It's going to be a great looking bike when you done. These things always have a way of taking longer than we think, 'life' gets in the way. Even as a retired old guy with no kids some times I have to put off my fun projects just to get the regular chores done. Can't wait to see the final product.

I think you will be pleased with the process you used. You took the trouble to remove the wire harness, and when it goes back on you will know the condition of and location of every connection. Do be sure to eliminate the flaky three yellow wire stator plug. They just cannot live with the electrical load of the OEM condition. Just wondering if you are going after any other minor up grades?
Even if you Reserve Lighting unit works, at 35 years old soon it may fail. A bypass can keep everything looking stock as Ernie (Pokadot77) can show in his thread.
The handle bar switch gear often fails due to age, but a headlight relay set can fit into the headlight bucket and the only mod to the wiring is the addition of one power lead from the battery. Every operation remains the same with the stock switch gear. It is just that will the reduction in the current, the switches do not fail so fast.
Now I understand if you want to keep everything pure, but if you plan to ride a bunch (and that bike will be a joy to ride) then perhaps a couple of these mods make sense. Everything I mentions can always go back to pure stock if so desired at a future date.

Good advice on all counts....as I'm sure most can relate... I've had hundreds of plastic sandwich bags with nuts and bolts and every part not only off of the bike but also disassembled and juggled since October...I just want to get it back together before I lose any more parts. When I get it back together and running properly I'll take a breather...then go back to the drawing board for phase 2 which will include several mods.
Hi all...just a quick update...moving forward....slowly..but forward nonetheless. It took me a while to get the wiring harness stuff situated. I learned the hard way that when you get the harness in a place that works...but in a slightly different spot.....it really doesn't work . I think I have everything in its proper spot now. Starting to shape up...I'm hoping to make alot of progress this week...but my build schedule..and the bikes schedule apparently are very different.

Its by far the best motorcycle forum I've ever come across...there is a wealth of expertise on here. I honestly wouldn't have been able to get where I am without this forum...and the knowledge often applies to other bikes.
I know I know....we cheated..but we wanted to get a general idea of what the colors and the theme are going to look like. Made some progress last night...hopefully will get the engine in soon.

Update...slowly but surely. I ran into more assembly sequence issues yesterday <sigh> I didn't get as much done as I had hoped..but making progresss. I have the center stand installed temporarily until I get to the exhaust to make it easier to work on. The bars in the picture are also temporary....just to help move the bike around. I still a couple of small pieces I need to purchase. And LOTS of loose ends
