Re: For lack of a better name...GL1100 FITT build
Well i bought a tap for $53 + shipping. Couldnt find a shop within 30mins that could do it. But in other news with the state of the US economy and fiscal cliff i may be facing furlough. So the project is on hold until further notice. Ill do as much as i can with what i've ordered so far, but things wont progress as quickly as they have been.
As far as the bike goes, I have the frame almost completely stripped and ready for primer. After which the front end will be close to completion. With the parts i have and what has been ordered i should be kept busy for two to three weeks.
Thanks for following...

Consider it an opportunity to clean and polish and test fit.
maybe you could get it running without the turbos and add them later.
I speak as the king of slow buildsif I followed my own advise I would have the most clean pile of parts on the planet.
Good luck and hang in there. A fast wing is surely in your future.

I am racing you, Duke. I actually did some polishing of parts this week. I'm not ready to work for Sunnbobb yet.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Re: For lack of a better name...GL1100 FITT build
So the tap arrived today and worked like a charm. Ran it through the other side also since I have it, cleaned those threads up nice too. Now I'll pack away the tap never to be seen again haha. I guess I'll put the offer out there, if anyone comes across the need to re-tap the swingarm pivot bolt holes (M30x1.5) I'll workout a loan a tool type thing for the cost of shipping.
I stripped the paint from the swingarm and removable frame portion. Hope to have it mostly primed tomorrow. Also cut/ground away the rear passenger peg mounts, steering stops, fork lock tab, and a few other misc tabs.
I've finally sorted out the whole front end. Just waiting on a proper axle to fit the GSXR 1000 wheel and that will finally be all together.
Will probably have to end up getting rid of the centerstand, but curious how those that have done that get the engine in and out? I have a few ideas but want to hear what else might be out there.

Good offer for the tap. Hope I won't need it!
I recently temp. fitted the engine. Blocked the engine on the bench securely and mounted the frame around it. Aligning the mount holes/bolts from the bottom working to the top ones. Worked well.

Many have left the c'stand mounts in place and just refitted it when needed.

Re: For lack of a better name...GL1100 FITT build
So I couldn't resist...ordered a bunch of stuff and got a bit of work done on the 'wing.
Almost a complete roller...Got the darkwing seat mounted up(still might make some adjustments). Clip-ons, switches, clutch/brake levers. Waiting on the headlight and speedo/tach to arrive. Need to order grips and throttle tube. I'll probably start painting the frame and wheels tomorrow and monday depending on the humidity as its supposed to rain. Other than that, all thats really left on the to do list before tackling the engine is rebuild the rear brakes, get an EBC rotor, and tires. I probably won't paint the bodywork until after the fuel injection is finished. I've been keeping a parts list that I'll post at some point, hard to believe all the things I've put into it. Been learning a lot as I go too.
Some pictures...
Not the best picture but really shows the lines well Front controls(08 GSXR Brake MC/Clutch perch/eBay levers/06 ZX10R switches/eBay clip ons) I'd like to cut the frame so it is not visible under the new seat/fender...should I have some extra bracing welded in if I were to cut from the red line back? It seems that anything beyond the shock is really for the seat support and that any lateral strength is from the part in front of the shocks.

Re: For lack of a better name...GL1100 FITT build
it doesn't fit perfect on the 1100(its made for the 1000), basically just the difference in the "tank"...took some dremel-ing and will probably glass it in a bit better to the faux tank to keep the lines clean. it is a little kattywompus in the rear but overall a very nice product for the price.CrashDown wrote:That darkwing seat looks so freaking cool.

I see you did the neck modification for the usd forks. What is your ride height going to be? Still trying to set mine.
