I'm going to finish the story on my "Preservation Restoration" up to the point where I got it finished, running, off the lift and on the ground then I'll go into what I found that still needed to be fixed and all the fine tuning to get it to the point that I'm confident I can take it for more than a few miles at a time.

Al though I've owned this bike for ten years I never got it running properly and never rode it before I started the project.

Stay tuned.

All that is left is the carbs. I met a member of this board "SnoBrdr" and I traided a set of Harley mufflers for the Randakk carb Video,
Thanks SnoBrdr. I bought the Carb rebuild kit, reuseable fuel filter and a few other things from Randakk and new needle and seats for the floats from Honda. I watched the video a few times and dove in. Taking the tops apart was pretty much straight forward. one thing that Randakk mentioned that getting the air mixture scerew out on one carb was a bit awkward I found that if you take the plastic thing out that holde the plug wires and put the screw driver through the hole you have a better angle to get it out.

Then when I fliped the carb rack over to remove the float bowls I had quite a suprise. the PO decided to use silicone to seal one of the bowls and it not only seales the bowl but blocked up everything underneith and frose the float.

I striped the rest down and started the cleaning as per Randakk's instructions.

Carbs, Part Two. That one carb with the silicone was a disaster, I'll bet I worked on that one carb for two hours removing every bit of silicone.
The other three were just gummed up from old gas not bad.

On to the rebuild, I pretty much followed Randakk's video did the vacuum check on the plenum and fuel side I took great care on adjusting the floats with the new needle and seats installed, made sure every jet was clean, pollished the slides and all that good stuff. I replaced every philip screw on the carbs the others were so buggered up.

The Carbs look great. Bench test the fuel flow and flush out the rest of the system and it's a GO!

It's Easter weekend, I had Good Friday off as a holiday and took Monday April 1'st on vacation I worked on the bike all weekend.
Got it all back together, installed the carbs, new fuel pump, Big crank battery, adjusted all the cables, set the points, static timed it and turned the key on and had everything working except no tail light and no runnung lights. I stole the reserve lighting parts off the 77 and good to go.

Put gas in the tank, the 7 volt reg is working but no fuel gauge reading I'll deal with that later, primed the fuel pump, filled the bowls as per Randakk's video and connected the gas lines.

It's ready to start, pulled the choke, pushed the starter button and fired right up I couldn't beleive it. It stumbled for a while but as it warmed up it started to settle down then discovered the tep gauge is not working and the fan never came on and it started to get hot so I shut it dow.

After it cooled down I started it back up and took it for a one mile ride it ran OK but not perfect and still no fan, fuel or temp. but it is done for the most part. Now I'll tell what I found to fix and complete the story in more posts.

Darn good looking bike. A good carb synch might be all you need for a smoothly running engine.

OK, if you'll bear with me for a minute and read posts: 9,11,18,22,26. we'll be up to speed because that's where I am now.

I decided on getting the original ball bearing setup for the steering stem, I got everything in the mail from Western Honda the other day.

The bike will probably be on the back burner for a few weeks till I get my boat in the water, got to keep the wife happy she is a boater and not much of a biker, then back on the bike.

Well it's been more than a few weeks since I worked on the 75 Wing but last Monday i got the front end off to replace the neck bearings.
I got the new races and ball's in, much better now. I got side tracked again, I hapen to find a deal on a 1981 Interstate for $200.00 I couldn't pass it up. It is a little rough cosmetically but it is workable. someware along the line someone put front calipers from an 82. It will be on the back burner for a while till I finish the 75.

Not sure if this MBS syndrome is a good thing or not, I paid $200.00 for the 75 and $3,500.00 later, well I know the 75 is a nice bike now.

HOTT don't let the picture fool you the 81 is not that nice, the bags and faring have cracks all over and the paint job is by spray cans. I'm not sure what to do with it yet.

I worked on the 75 today, got most of the front end back on then it got too hot in the garage and I forgot to take some pictures. I'll take a few before I start to work on it again. Hopefully I'll have it back together b the end of the week.

Got a little more done last night, I'll finish it tonight. I still have an issue with the back brakes to deal with (low Peddle) I've blead all the air out but it is still low. I still have no reading on the gas gauge and water temp gauge, the 7V reg is working so I have to sort that out too.

The front end is all back together, no more front brake issues. Even though the 7 volt regulator was working I desided to buy the new improved one from Gavscott/Hollsco, I installed it like another member did and I added schrink tubing to the spade connectors. I was reading on Randakk's tech tips on how to jump the leads for the fuel sending unit and the gas gauge came up slowley so I tried the one from the 77 and it responded better so I installed that one. I pluged the wires back to the sending unit and now i have a gas gauge that works. Still no water temp that is next.
55 7 Volt Regulator.JPG
I got the bike insured through AARP/Formost got a good deal on both the Harley and Wing, registered, and inspected.
I filled the tank and the gas gauge went to full. the rear brakes seem better not sure why maybe some traped air worked its way out.
I think I might have to balance the front wheel I have to take it up to speed to know for sure.
56 Bike Complete.JPG
Time to start riding it more than just in the city a few miles at a time.
