Hey, new member here with two ideas for color scheme:

Steam-punk

or

Paint the road rash back in somehow, like a silver streak on black paint kinda thing.

Just glad you're ok. Like you said, on the plus side, you've got 2 projects now!

Welcome to the madness! I do dig the steampunk idea... ever since I stripped my 1200 down, I realize how much potential the bare frame and engine have, even with just minor cosmetic bodywork. I've pretty much decided I'm going to bring it back to stock black/yellow.... but I'm going to keep an eye out for other cheap 1200's, too!

Well, you can always replace the Clutch master with one from a honda vfr. Actually are a really nice master and can be found for around 45 bucks.

Good to hear you found a set of left controls. Is she okay electrically now?

Mmmm... yes and no. Yes, in that during the times I've had it running everything seemed to work (kill switch, hi-low beam, horn, starter- couldn't test the blinkers because that button was gone), no in that the last time I had it running the headlight cut in and out a few times. However, it WILL come on if I just turn the key. I'm putting off running it too much lately, because my brother made a good point about water in the oil. I figure I'll do a change before I put on the new controls and do a short "frame-check" road test. Once I'm sure everything is straight, THEN we'll get into the other diagnostics.

Well, at least things are pretty close to where they need to be. The frame evaluation is important going forward.

I just got word that my left-side controls should be here by Friday. Once I get 'em bolted up and the clutch bled, I should have some more information on whether or not it's feasible to move forward with a full restoration.

In the meantime, I did grab a set of a rear saddlebag mounts/bars for (relatively) cheap off of Ebay. If I can bring my 1200 back, I got 'em (relatively) cheap. If not? I got that much more I can add to the selling price of the bike, should I decide to go that route.

Which I don't want to. At all.

Good news and bad news. Bad news? I got the left-side controls in the mail, and wouldn't you know, even after SPECIFYING which kind I needed, I STILL got the wrong set. Ah well. Live and learn, I suppose. Probably gonna pop 'em on Ebay, try to get a little bit of my money back.

Good news? I got a proper set coming from a member here, and I DID get enough parts to start bleeding my clutch. There's definitely a lot of air in the system (and still a bit more I'm trying to exorcise), and I've never had a good track record with hydraulics in general, but as SOON as I get that bit figured out, I'll have a runner for sure. (She does still start easy, so we got good ground there somewhere. I just gotta get to it, and not break the bank getting there.)

I'm happy to report that I FINALLY have a working set of left-hand controls, clutch at electronics both. Adapting an Aspencade control cluster to a Standard wiring harness was an interesting challenge, but I managed to figure it out. I took the bike for a spin around the yard, and in 1st gear at least everything looks okay. I'll have to take it on the road sooner than later, but it can't be for too far- my rear turn signals and stop light are in the saddlebags. Which I don't have anymore. Still, it's progress!

The bore size I have no clue, but I can check in the morning. As for linked brakes? I don't think so... but I'm not 100% positive. I know for sure that the front brake handle does nothing to stop the rear wheel, and I can check the reverse tomorrow, but I've never been down there to trace the brake lines to be sure. Heck, before now I haven't needed to tear into it at all- in fact, that's the reason I bought my 1000; I missed working on something!
