65F in Phoenix today. We got ripped off. Was supposed to be 71F.
All in all, I guess it could be worse.
Doing a ride with some friends on Saturday. Wondering which bike to take.
Maybe I'll draw straws...

Chinooks Winds are blowing in Calgary, been above freezing (daytime highs) the last few days and forecast to remain that way for at least the next week. The max daytime highs are in the 35-40F range, which up here we will take over the possible -30s we can get in Jan.

Re: Weather
We've had extremely high winds for 3 days, mostly around 95mph here but up to 113 on the coast, together with torrential rain. Wasn't too cold though.
Big change last night. Wind dropped to nothing, as did the temperature. There had been some snow around in other parts of the country but we had missed it. Until today. Started with just a covering last night but now up to about 2-3".

Re: Weather
I haven't been on the forum much so here's a synopsis of how my year has been:
Note that I do not drive cars and Eccles (CX650E based sidecar machine) is my daily driver.
Jan. 5th (1st day back to work after the holidays): I tried to drive to work, really I did. When I left home it was overcast but visibility was good and the roads were snow covered but driveable. Heck, between here and the next town I even got up to 90 Km/h for a bit. But halfway through town the weather changed. The farther I went the worse it got until I got to a point where I couldn't see the road ahead of me. I pulled over and called work to see if it was any better there. They said it wasn't and I should turn back so I did. After I thawed out I put the heat on in the shop and installed the Ural hand guards I bought last spring.
Jan. 6th: What a difference the hand guards make! It was about -20c when I went to work but my hands were as comfortable as they were without the guards at -10c. But that didn't help me get the engine started to come home. To start with the choke lever (part of the new switches I installed last year) broke so I had to remove the side cover so I could choke it manually (put my hand over the air intake). Then the starter clutch (that I replaced before I installed the "new" engine last year) was having a hard time catching and when it did it couldn't turn the engine over fast enough to start. Even connected to the boss' truck with his heavy booster cables it wouldn't go. So he said "I'll drive you home and we'll put it inside in the morning to make sure it starts."
Jan. 7th: Kay was able to drive me to work and Eccles started & ran well after being in the warm shipping room all day. Green puddle on floor. It is coming out of the weep hole so it has to be either a failed water pump seal or the nut that holds the impeller on has come loose (I had that happen once before). Matt will be here this weekend and we plan on pulling the water pump housing off to have a look.
Jan. 9th (Friday): I went from work to home via the post office, stopped long enough to call Matt to say I was on the way, went to get him and then straight back home, arriving 2 hours after I left work. about -13c and with no coolant in the rad there was no "warm" air behind it so my lower legs were pretty chilly by the time I got home.
Jan 10th: We had some errands with Kay in the morning but started taking Eccles apart afterward. After removing the seat, side covers, tank, carbs &c I removed the water pipe that runs from the pump to the lower rad hose the impeller and nut fell out. Great news
I won't need a new seal. The seal can be replaced with the engine in the frame but I didn't have one on hand and it would have taken a lot more time. While we were at it I dug around and found an old bicycle gearshift that I had modified to use as a choke lever on a previous bike and we installed it on Eccles to replace the broken one, at least temporarily.
Jan. 11th: Pump re-assembled, fresh coolant in, carbs & tank back on and lets fire it up and make sure the choke works & the water pump seal is good. I was about to turn the key on when Matt said "What's dripping under the bike?" Damn! Its gas coming out of the left carb's overflow. OK, turn the gas off and tap the float bowl with a screwdriver a few times, turn the gas back on and it seems to have stopped. Everything else is OK so we finish up & head in for dinner, then a 58Km test drive to take Matt home. And by the time I got home it was dribbling fuel again. I was too tired to mess around with it that night so I shut the petcock off, came in and went to bed.
Jan. 12th: Drive to work & back, remembering to turn the gas off every time I stop. Let the shop heat up for a while and drop the bowl. Hold the float up, turn the petcock on and no fuel flows. Lower the float & fuel flows, raise it & fuel stops. OK, probably a bit of crap was keeping the needle open but I dropped the float and ran a q-tip over the seat just in case. Back together and in for dinner. Check an hour later; no drips so I guess its fixed
Jan. 16th: Eccles has been behaving all week. No more puddles (except a bit of melted snow) and started pretty well after work with the rad hose heater & stick on heaters plugged in all day every day (temps in the -13c to -18c range after work)(morning temps less of an issue because it is always above -5c in the garage). Similar routine to last week: Home long enough to empty sidecar & call Matt, head to TSC to get a jug of Rotella T6 (JASO MA rated 5W40 synthetic - a couple of people on CX forum said it is OK in these bikes). No stock there so over to Crappy Tire and pay $6 more, then to Giant Tiger (like Wal-Mart 25 years ago but Canadian) a couple of blocks from Matt's place so he met me there, then home (3 hours this time but my legs weren't nearly as cold
) Pan under engine & Rotella T 15W40 left to drain overnight so I can add the T6 in the morning.
And that's why I haven't been around NGW much for the last couple of weeks.....
