Cookie, As a newbie its comforting to know that even the wing pros have their "stupid" moments. I had to buy two sets of those bearings when redoing my bike. Pounded the small bearing so hard that I broke the cage around the bearings and had them all over the garage floor. Hope it comes off ok.
Hope for the best, expect the worst and take what comes!

Thanks mate,

Things rarely go perfectly so we'll see if this is the only screwup by the time I'm done.

I had to remove the rubber seal and go with an O ring for enough clearance. Now the neck feels pretty good.

I got another few minutes on it today, triple trees on and was starting one fork leg when my wife called. Chucked in the vice with the cap still on but loose it looks like the legs will come apart easily, I'm using 3/8 hex adapters and a spark plug ratchet. In the past I've had to use air but no need yet.

The triple tree is in and tonight I rebuilt the legs. Even with the cap still on one leg had the inside spin when I tried to remove the bottom allen screw. My 3/8 air ratchet spun it right out though. then I cleverly turned it up when I know full well the oil will come out the bottom. It did. I turned it back up at about the same rate as a baton twirler. Only a small clean up.
My bike had these very easy to remove snap rings, these fork seals came with the bike so I hope they work. I drove the seals in with a big socket.
The legs are ready to go on tomorrow, as usual clean up is taking a lot of the time.

Quite a bit more cleaning and rust removal. Boy that beeper is annoying to reinstall, I should have just disconnected its wires.

Got a little time today and spent it filling the forks, very easy! Tap Plastics has a nice 60 cc syringe that does it quite well. A couple of notes, the new neck bearing is bigger and makes a gap on the headlight mount. Of course there are several ways to deal with that, I'm trying a spacer under the mount glued in place with silicone. If that does not work over time I'll make a ring for the top, but that would show as non stock so I'm avoiding that direction.
Cleaned and installed the fender, wired the headlight and tested it, installed the reflectors. In a few minutes I may go back and put the wheel on. I see slight cracking on one brake hose so it is time to order a set from Crescent Moon if they have stainless.

She is now back on her wheels. Tomorrow I'll do the few remaining tasks and check every bolt I touched.

Such a pretty gal.

I bet you can't wait to get out on the highway (and look for adventure, of course). :-)

This one is almost done for the summer when the new hoses come from Frenchy. I decided to go stock rubber cover since the bike is so stock.
The test run went very well except for a slight drizzle, I would have liked to give her 50 miles before a final tightening up but with the rain I'll wait.
No noise anywhere and those new neck bearings are very smooth, everything works well.

She is looking good. Looks like she will be done in time for Quail, are you going to ride her down to Carmel?

That depends on how many I have going. If I go myself I'll probably ride yellow or the LTD which should be done then.
If Spencer goes I'll bring the BMW roadster. If wife goes too or Simon is here then the Subaru wagon.

So that's about it for a while on this bike. She just did 50 miles and had every bolt checked. She now has the little rubber covers back over the bolts. I polished up the front end to remove all the hand marks I put on while installing parts. See how nice Sunbob's fork legs came out with a Semichrome job.
