Sounds like a keeper for now. Perhaps the valve timing is just a bit better with the added lash. Who knew?

My GUESS would be:
using 12 volts, as that would give a higher calculated amperage:
60 watts / 12 v = 5 amp
12 v / 3 ohm = 4 amp x 2 coils = 8 amps
Total 13 amps on that circuit.
I'd fuse it at 20 amp with #12 wire size as feeder conductor.
Just a guess.
