Much better welds than I can do.
Bikes at present:
83 XL 600r with a 2004 XR650L engine
And a slightly worse for the wear BMW GS adventure bike awaiting repair

How's the alignment on that pipe? I'll bet it would spell trouble if not almost perfectly square.

Some of the welds are via HOTT, others are mine.
This had to be modified a bit from when I got it. It was on an 1100, but my 1200 hybrid has a different spacing. Cut it apart, tacked it all together, and then pulled her off and finished her up.
It slides right on, and most everything clears. I do need to get a shorter oil filter for the Randakk spin on attachment, as the filter doesn’t want to be on when that header is in place. I am not planning on running it with the Fram, but it gave me the eyes to try and fit everything.

Are you thinking of tying some or all of the weight of the turbo to the frame to keep stress off the exhaust? I have no idea if it’s needed but if the lower pipes are older and the ceramic could crack from flexing it might be worth it. You’re probably going to gets bursts of a lot more heat.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

I have pondered that very thing...this setup seemed to work well on it’s previous bike, but that is a lot of weight hanging off the heads. That is scheduled 40 mild steel...
It may get connected to the upper part of the frame rail to help secure it.

I have been reading quite a few of your posts as of late...putting Webers on my buddy's bike, and as always, questions arise. I think I am on the right track with them.

Re: My 77 project that will turn into a cafe racer/ Bobber with a kick
The run well and they sound terrific.
Much of the tune is dependent on the intake restriction (air filter) and the exhaust backpressure. Randall suggested 185 air correctors. The bike back-fired through the carbs at highway speeds and a dyno run showed it was really running lean once it got up onto the main jets. 135 air correctors fixed it.
The jets are brass so you can solder them shut and drill them out with the correct size bit. Drills are way cheaper than jets.
(I thought "Continental Drift" was a lot better than "Glacially Slow".)

Yes, this project got put on the back burner when we bought the property, and then built the house on it. Finally time for this one to get closer to done. I have many of the parts to get it to run, but still need some to get it finished.

Re: My 77 project that will turn into a cafe racer/ Bobber with a kick
One of the pieces I have been missing is how to make the throttles turn on my Jenvey’s. Years ago, I was in contact with a fella from the Samba that made custom throttle cables and pulleys for Weber carbs, as well as others for VW cars and buses. Being that the Jenvey’s have a D shaped shaft, he was going to make a custom set of pulleys for me. Somehow that didn’t happen, so recently, I contacted the fella again. He is retiring from making the kits, but he said he should have some IDF’s kits still.
So, I am going to get one of those IDF kits, and retro fit it to my system. I may need to cut off the top off of the Randakk manifolds and switch the tops side to side to spin the Jenvey’s around, but time will tell if I need to do this or not.
The other thing I am working with another member on here with is making the bases for the tops for my turbo setup. These would be the pieces I needed to weld up, but I haven’t yet practiced enough to successfully weld that patch in to those lower plates.
Here is a picture of what the pulleys will look like.

Re: My 77 project that will turn into a cafe racer/ Bobber with a kick
A couple of folks went with BMW split cable controls.
The way Randall had the geometry set up for the contra-rotating carbs wasn't very accurate. I reworked the geometry for him and with the contra-rotating system there is 0 error at full open and full closed and a 1/2° error at 50% throttle. That's close enough for me so I never looked into different options. I have the pull cable from the throttle going to the right carb and a cross-bike rod goes from right to left and there is no push cable.
It certainly isn't as pretty as that one...but it works.

Yep, that sounds about like how my buddies bike is set up with the Webers. I have to verify the angles on that setup to be sure it matches the drawings. I just wanted my bike to be a little bit different.

Re: My 77 project that will turn into a cafe racer/ Bobber with a kick
Something else I am changing on this bike is the speedometer. It came off, and isn’t going back on, as it found a home on my buddies 75. Pictures will come when the parts arrive. I am going to raise the headlight up a bit higher, I think I had it a bit lower to work with the gauge, but what is coming next won’t impede that one bit.
