I went the other way. Most of the grasses we use for lawns were imported from Europe and out compete native grasses, which makes them technically invasive foreign species  On the other hand, many of the so-called "weeds" are more beneficial to the environment than the grass anyway. I've done very little to promote grass over the years so when mid summer comes and the neighbour's grass turns brown our yard is still nice & green :8)
I'm also a big fan of clover; Clover doesn't grow as tall so it doesn't need to be mowed as often and it looks much nicer too. Whenever I have an area where something like that big pile of wood chips that was on the lawn last summer or the greenhouse tent has killed off the normal grass & weeds I take the opportunity to sew clover in its place. I even put the greenhouse in a different spot every year so I can plant another patch of clover.

Hard to plant grass in the spring/summer due to heat and rain. I always plant in late October or November so it can germinate and develop roots before spring and has a better shot of surviving summer. Kind of depends when you get the most rain.

Hey Bob, is there an exchange rate on grass imports?

I don't know about exchange rates (or tariffs) for grass but if you look into the history of it you'll find that until the 20th century grass was grown almost exclusively to feed grazing animals (cattle, sheep, goats &c) and more grass was a sign that you were wealthy enough to have flocks to feed. If you weren't rich enough to have grazing animals most (or all) of your yard would be planted with stuff you could eat.
Then the growing middle class decided that they could have more free time (or more time to earn money) if they bought their veg and they would look better off if they planted grass instead, even if cutting the grass with a reel type push mower seriously ate into that free time (and if you had kids they could push the mower for you).
The final nails in the coffin were large suburban lots and the invention of the power lawn mower.

BTW, there is even less snow than there was yesterday. I could actually walk across my lawn without putting boots on to look at the pile of snow that has to disappear before I can drive Mr.H out of the back yard. It is down to a bit over 2.5' now.
And the clover on the lawn is starting to grow.

BTW, it is about 7c & rainy here today but the forecast says we might get a few flakes before it ends.

Beautiful day here. Mid to upper 70's and mostly bright sunshine. Storms starting to roll in now for the next few hours. Supposed to drop us back about 20 degrees for tomorrow.

A little cool and breezy but good working weather here today. Tomorrow is supposed to be 70's again.

It was nice enough Thursday to go for a ride and take video

The ice storm arrived yesterday evening and today our world is covered in a shiny layer of it. There are reports of power outages in our town but for us the power blinked on & off just long enough for me to get all the computers turned off before it came back fly into a rage

Beautiful Day here low 80s and light winds. Unfortunately I spent it in the truck doing Akita rescue stuff.

Got a couple days of mid-60s F here, inching towards 70. Bikes are currently still hibernating, but we're getting close.

Problem is is that Michigan tends to lie when it comes to weather, so a couple of freak below freezing days aren't out of the question.

Low 80's here and dry but way too windy to enjoy a ride. Maybe I can sneak out tomorrow before the big front comes through.
